Hiding Things in a Bag Of Holding

Rules Questions

If some item is hidden in a bag of holding:

Would a Locate Object find it?

What would a Scrying show?

My understanding is that anything inside of a bag of holding is not on the same plane as the person carrying the bag.

Scrying only works on creatures, not objects.

So that would be no and nothing.

Scrying wouldn't work, and Locate Object would come up with an answer of "It's not on this plane".

Possibly worth pointing out that Discern Location would return a result along the lines of "In a magic bag carried by X" (assuming the bag is being carried - if it's a bag of holding sitting on a wizard's workbench in his tower it would be "In a magic bag on the workbench inside the tower of X").

Love that spell.

Discern Location is an 8th level spell... couldn't anyone who can cast that spell, simply steal whatever item they are looking for right out of a bag of holding with other powerful magic?

I think Locate Object would simply fail through "no object within range".

The spell cannot search an entire plane!
