I know we like to think it will be China Alone...but it looks as if Russia is about to dump Europe like a cheap date in favor of courting China. With her Vast Diamond Reserves and a refusal to prop Up Europe with Oil, Russia is positioning herself to become a Power Block with China.
It certainly has the wealth reserves in Diamonds to build Fuel Processing Plants on the Moon and a colossal Drone Fleet out in space for the purpose of mining asteroids and the ice rings of Saturn.

So while the Bankrupt USA is destined to become the Pot Dealer economy of Tomorrow, Russia and China will be colonizing the Earth, Moon, Mars and Beyond.

*Blink*

So... um... first of all, why would they build a fuel processing plant on the Moon? There's no fuel there...

Hydrogen... It'll be the main thing they'll need for space exploration and resource development.

It's the end of the world as we know it...

But do you feel fine?

Couldn't they just use a ramscoop and pick it up in space? Manufacturing hydrogen usually involves water... and, as a far as I know, water is far more readily available in, say, Russia or China, than it is one the moon...

What's up with the present progressive tense?

This has been going on for a while.

We will bury you in rocket exhaust!

On the issue of the bric: Welcome to what we've known to be happening economically for oh ten years plus..

On the Moon: It is hellium three that you mine the moon for, but that needs working fusion technology.

Thank you. I meant helium III, but didn't pause to look it up to see if I was correct before. As for working fusion technology, Shhhh, Shhhh. It's a secret.

Considering what a horrific disaster most of the Soviet space program turned into, and that China's national R&D plan seems to consist of "blatantly steal other people's industrial secrets," I'm not too worried about either of them conquering space any time soon.

Whatever will be, will be.

Unless the masters of the universe have found a way to travel light years in hours, and be back from Andromeda before dinner, conquering space remains a very expensive and unprofitable enterprise, outside of a few defense contractor "businesses."

There's so much junk in space already, it'll become a problem.

Rumor has it that Obama knows about this technology, and will use it to take away our guns.

What horrific disaster? You Yanks have been paying for overpriced tickets to get to the ISS on Russian rockets. It may not be pretty but at least they are still putting people into space.

The Chinese have a point to prove.... They want to be the Middle Kingdom again, they want to be the centre of everything again and I don't think there is much that can stop them.

You say "threatens," the article says "offers."

How could a Chinese unification of the country possibly go wrong?

The same way American Unification of Vietnam went wrong?

USA attempts to sow Anti-BIG CHINA discord among ASEAN Nations

Apparently China can be part of Asia as long as it becomes a 'manageable' democracy. This is just perpetuation of the same policy of isolation that kept China from participating in the 'International' Space Station.
