He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

The Exchange

Just watched the terribad He-Man/She-Ra Christmas Special with my 2-1/2 year old son. He loved it, and I enjoyed my flashback to the 80s. I remember getting the Castle Greyskull playset for Christmas back in... yikes, 1982?

Anyway, it got me thinking about what the various characters might look like in Pathfinder terms. In the original mini-comics (before the animated series) He-Man was a pretty generic Barbarian, but I think the animated series He-Man might be a bit closer to a Beast Rider Cavalier. Thoughts? What about Skeletor and the rest of the characters?

No idea. But you should definitely have a dragon that has a "save or be sent to the realm of demons" effect.

I had a bunch of He-Man dolls when I was little, before I started gaming. I'm pretty sure my mother chucked them all.

This is a specially made class based on He-Man. Enjoy!

Liberty's Edge

Hah! Back when I was young, aspiring DM with no idea of what I was doing and no actual rule books, I used to have He-Man and his fellow Masters of the Universe make cameos in my campaign. That was back in the days of Basic D&D so He-Man was just a fighter and Skeletor was a magic user.

Things are more complicated now so I guess the Masters need more refined classes.

Some Good Guys

He-Man - Beast Rider Cavalier's a good pick. Mounted Fury Barbarian would also work if you want to cleave old school.

Battle Cat/Cringer - for the cartoon version of Battle Cat, you could make him a grimalkin from Monster Manual 2.

Man at Arms - Straight up Fighter. If you want to go with the watered down cartoon version that replaced his sweet mace with lame cartoon-friendly defensive wrist-lasers, I guess you could go with a Magus.

Teela - Monk, possibly Weapon Adept if you want to emphasize her staff fighting.

The Sorceress - Actually, an Eagle Shaman Druid with the Air or Weather domain. For the original comic/action figure version named Teela, I'd go Serpent Shaman with the Animal or Charm domain.

Orko - Orko's Trollan race could use it's own write-up but, barring that, I'd go with a Fey Creature(template) Gnome sorcerer with the Protean bloodline.

Some Bad Guys

Skeletor - Seems like a Magus to me, maybe a Hexcrafter to add a little flavor. Keldor was just a human before his little accident so I'd say his skull head is the result of a curse or other spell that would take a Miracle or Wish spell to lift.

Beast Man - Bugbear Savage Barbarian.

Mer-Man - Sahuagin Ranger, maybe a Beast Master with a stable of dangerous sea creatures as pets.

Evil-Lyn - Sorceress with the Shadow bloodline.

Tri-Klops - Tri-Klops was supposed to be a hunter so if I wanted to be accurate to the action figures or cartoon, I'd make this guy a Human Ranger with some kind of enchanted visor with something like Low-Light Vision, Darkvision and Clairvoyance abilities. For fun, I'd re-imagine him as a Cyclops Falconer Ranger (his one eye + the bird's two = three eyes!) With the bird's help, he'd still be Skeletor's go-to guy for scouting and tracking.

Trap Jaw - Since there aren't really rules for cybernetic prostheses, I'd make Kronis a Machine Soldier Robot Fighter with some interchangeable integrated weapons.

He-Man: Human Beastmaster Ranger/Mythic Champion teirs. Longsword, Battleaxe, light shield. Harness functions as Hide armor. Magical bracers, belt and boots.

Man-at-Arms: Human Gunslinger/Fighter. Mace, hand crossbow (pistol), plate armor.

Teela: Human Ranger/Rogue. Staff, Short sword, light shield, leather armor.

The Sorceress: Sorcerer/Druid.

Skeletor: Lich Wizard/Magus. Staff, sword, leather armor.

Evil-Lyn: Human Sorcerer(infernal) using mostly Illusions. Rod, leather armor.

Mer-Man: Sahuagin Fighter/Barbarian.

Beastman: Half-Orc Barbarian.

Trap Jaw: Warforged Fighter.

She-Ra: Aasimar Paladin.

Duncan was supposed to be some kind of an inventor/weaponsmith. This doesn't need to be mechanically integral to his class, but it was considered one of the central elements of the character.

You could probably pull off beast man a a half orc or hobgoblin. I would use something that has summon nature's ally and wild empathy. Maybe ranger.
