Alright, here's a question. I know that if you're a catfolk or something like that, you cant wear normal boots (digigrade legs and all that), but you can have custom footwear made for your character that's magical. how about merfolk? They dont have legs, but could they get say.. a tail band of striding and springing made for them as a custom magical item to add to movement speed? I'd allow it, but I wanted to know what you guys thought. Do merfolk just not have a 'foot' slot, or does it just have to be custom?

Scarab Sages

I would assume that it just has to be custom. I dug around a little and was having trouble finding something that addresses this specifically. They do have the Legless trait, for what that's worth...

Creating a race with more than two legs adversely affects that race's ability to use standard feet slot magic items. The best way to deal with this is to create variant magic item versions of the various boots, shoes, and slippers that can be worn by this race. Allow members of these races to find ankle bracelets of speed or horseshoes of spider climb that act just like their traditional magic item counterparts, but fit the new race's form.

This is from the traits section of Race Creation from the PRD. I'd just make a custom magic item like a tail band or flippers.
