My player's recently player Rat's of The Round Mountain part I.
Part II is supposed to be played immediately after Part I, without the ability to buy items or gain new missions from factions, however character's can opt to disregard this and return back to Absalom if they wish, but they lose the Boon on the chronicle from Part II.
One of the player's feels that his character is "locked" now in this scenario if he doesn't wish to lose boon and can't play with his character in other scenario's.
Is this fine? Or is there some level of flexibility for players?
Thanks for responses.

Unfortuantely, the player is correct. If he chooses to play another scenario before rats part 2, he looses the "free" aspect of the boon as his character is considered to have returned. He does still have the option to spend pp on the boon if he so desires.
But if he chooes to stay in rats his character is effectively locked until he players part 2.
Mine was locked for about 6 months before I was able to play part 2 ...

So the boon is free if chained successfully? My GM never mentioned it when we finished part 2 and the chronicle doesn't mention it either. I figured that the GM would just cross it off completely if it wasn't chained (in other words it couldn't even be purchased).
I don't have the boon in front of me, work and all, but I'd suggest reading it .. it will probably have the information to clarify,.
My understanding of it, however, is free if chained, pp cost if not.

You are completely correct. It's right there on the chronicle sheet, just as you say--free if you have Dogged Adventurer and purchasable if not.

Yeah, there was a huge debate about this when the scenarios were first published. Generally, it's a good idea to try and schedule these back to back in a short time period.
But honestly, the special boon isn't that special, and PCs at that level should have plenty of spare prestige around if they really want to buy the boon.

Well, to be fair it is the only boon I remember that fulfills the following criteria:
*Applies to characters of all classes and alignments
*Can, in theory, be used in all scenarios
Most other boons are either barely ever usable in a few scenarios (Wonders in the Weave and many others) or no scenarios at all (Beggar's Pearl and a few others) or only work for characters of a few classes (Quest for Perfection) or alignments (Golden Serpent and Sanos Abduction, also limited to a few classes only unless you pay three feats which require 13 Charisma).

I'm keeping this post for posterity ... because the next wordwar we get into ... I'm sooooo using it rofl.
lol, have we ever gotten into a wordwar? I surely don't remember it. I find I usually either agree with you or it's a topic where there are lots of reasonable opinions and we can agree to disagree. Are you sure it was me?

Thanks. That makes sense to me.... although if a caster leveled and got new spells, I guess she would need to find the components for her new spells somehow.

Normal spell components can be found inside your spell component pouch. Don't ask how, they're just there. It's magic.
Expensive, specific components can be a bit trickier. Better stock up before you go down there if you feel the levelup itch coming on.
