So once my society wizard hits 11th, I plan on snagging true name. It seems this is legal for society, and my question is how have others treated this in society play? The biggest prize seems to be the Glabrezu for 11th level, so I would love to take that, barring an alignment problem....thoughts?

True name is not legal for Society play.

I wanna see someone try Planar Binding a Glabrezu, however (which a Wizard can do at 11th Level, or a Sorcerer at 12th Level). It looks quite dangerous, but geeze, if you managed to do it, you could legally acquire a Wish spell in a PFS scenario.

That is assuming I am not forced to take..."corrective measures" against you, for repeatedly consorting with demons. Do not bring more agents of chaos and destruction to this plane.

Hey my conjurer has never summoned a demon/devil, but can. And could summon a fiendish critter, but always goes with celestial - and has summoned archons. Plus he has saved fellow pathfinders many times. Wizards already get the most restrictive/crippling beat down in society play as it is, so if I need to summon a demon to help put down some BBEG, its your call to not flank with it.

I could quite easily planar bind a glabrezu (I have a 91% chance of beating its SR, and it has only a 12% chance of saving versus the binding if it were persistent, and then it would pit its +5 charisma bonus (assuming I didn't bestow a curse or enervate it before forcing it into servitude) against my +12...)

That said, it's a demon of treachery: I would never try to exploit its wish; even bound, I would assume it would find a way to twist my wish against me. Bad, bad idea.

A much better outsider for access to wish would be the (far weaker) efreet. I could call and bind one of these with trivial effort, and its 3 wishes per day far exceeds the mere 1/month of the glabrezu... but, even though I could kill the efreet almost instantly if it tried to betray me, I would still be very cautious about exploiting its use for wishcraft: it's very powerful magic which must be treated with great caution and respect!

Sure, you could get that wish for the scenario, but any effects of the wish would be gone after the end of the scenario.

If it was a Wish that increased an ability score, and it was an Efreeti that you summoned... would the bonus be permanent?

After all, if you used Wish to bring someone back to life, then that would presumably stay permanent. So wouldn't a Wish to increase one's stats be permanent as well?

Scarab Sages 2/5

I already considered that. Although that would be cool, I doubt its legal. Along tht line, can one get a permanent stat boost book at expect that to be permanent? Probably not if the wish method does not work also.

The stat book would be a permanent effect. You actually spent resources (gold) to purchase the book.

The Wish effect, like most permanent/long-term spells, ends at the end of the scenario or module.

Well it's not a Glabrezu, but a 12th level Sacred Servant can get something like a Couatl (if LG) every scenario. You don't have to pay any of the costs and the only sticking point is your GMs ruling on what is a "reasonable task". Since it is a weekly ability, it would fall under that 1/scenario conversion.

Just like masterwork transformation being cast on a weapon eh?

The hound archon at 8 is great too with the aura and the perma-Aid. It's actually better as a Dire Hyena though.

No, Masterwork Transformation is one of the spell effects, in limited quantity, that won't end at the end of the scenario or module.

Quote:

All spells and effects end at the end of a scenario with the following exceptions:

• Spells and effects with permanent or instantaneous duration that heal damage or remove harmful conditions remain in effect at the end of the scenario.
• Afflictions and harmful conditions obtained during a scenario remain until healed and carry over from scenario to scenario.
• A character may have one each of the following spells that carries overs from scenario to scenario: continual flame, masterwork transformation, secret chest, and secret page.

Addendum, in the FAQ, I think: Once an item that is under the effects of a Masterwork Transformation spell has had an actual, permanent enhancement added to it (even just making it +1), that item no longer counts against your limit of Masterwork Transformations.

Which makes it the only one of the enduring non-healing spells that can be used multiple times without giving up the effects of the earlier casting.

Note, also, that a Wish used to emulate a healing spell, remove harmful conditions, or to give the same effect as one of the spells explicitly listed out above, would endure as the effects of the spell it emulates would endure. So, using a Wish to emulate True Resurrection would endure, allowing the character to continue to live; but a Wish used to emulate Fabricate would have the materials created go away at the end of the scenario or module.
