So a leaked a photo of Goku in his Super Saiyan ape form

I continue to have very little hope for this movie. For one thing, it should have been made about 10 years ago if it was going to be made at all.
Also, they changes they keep making seem to be...pointless. Yes, some of the things they ARE keeping are the things that make the least sense. Like the crazy anime hair. Don't get me wrong, this is the series that got me back into anime nearly 10 years ago, and I wouldn't give up the stupid hair for anything, but it doesn't translate well into a real haircut.
Have they changed the hair since the original promo photos?

Well let's see, the ozaru form is just what sayajins turn into when they see the moon. Its only called an ape because A the overall story of Dragonball is based on the legend of the Monkey King, and B its a furry humanoid with a prehensile tail and feet that look like hands. If you look at the ozaru head, its far more canine or even crocodillian.
As for the photo, that could be any number of things, including a mid-transformation shot. It could also be a special effect that was scrapped; a lot of them see production, but only because you have to see it fully realised to decide you don't want it. Heck, it could even be Piccolo in the Roshi dougi, just to confuse fans and spread some misinformation. (You should see the anti-intelligence campaign coming out of Transformers 2!) Or a "looking in the mirror and being afraid of what you see" dream sequence effect.
And, unless they are seriously bothching up the Dragonball storyline, there will be no Super Sayajin hijinks at all. Thats Dragonball Z, this is just Dragonball.
And the hair isnt as bad as the origional promo photo, it was toned down a bit. I see far worse hair at my local mall.

Actually doesn't seem all that bad. (Patiently awaits the inevitable lynching.)

Could be much worse, at least they kept some of the storyline even if the dragonballs were created by Kami because it was a noted part of his race's special abilities.
I wonder if that was Chi Chi?
The two women fighting, one a shapeshifter and the other....
Bulma with a gun? Well she doesn't have martial art abilities so do you blame her? She did shoot Goku at the start of the dragonball series only to have it bounce off!
I wonder what else they changed?
At least JM as Piccolo is a good sign, he isn't likely to mess that up!

Hey all here are two new trailers for the upcoming film
The Japanese release is set to begin showing nationwide in 540 cinemas on the 13th of March, with the dubbed version boasting an all star seiyuu cast. The US release is set for April 9th

I'll probably be able to watch this and get a good laugh, maybe enjoy some cool actions scenes, then pick it apart with my friends afterwards. Overall, probably a decent use of my 6.75 (hooray for Tightwad Tuesdays).
Now, I may be an avid anime fan, but I'm not a rampant card-carrying Dragonball fan. I watched me some DBZ, to be sure, but I was recording it while I was at school and fast forwarding through the booring. So there.
Now, if and when live action Evangelion ever sees the light of day... well, then I might be a bit more hardcore.
Then again, I enjoyed Transformers, and the Transformers are my origional favorite, the gateway to anime for me. I had dinobots on my 7th birthday cake, fer crying out loud. So I guess I'm just easygoing, judging by the "general" reaction to Michael Bay's Transformers compared to mine.

Dragonball Evolution Tops Asian Box Offices:
Dragonball Evolution, previews of which were much maligned by fans and critics alike, have defied expectations and topped box offices all over Asia.
Over the weekend, Dragonball was the number 1 movie in China, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea.
The movie grossed $3.4 million from 855 locales in China, and was 20th Century Fox’s fourth-highest weekend opening in the market.
The movie also made it to the number 2 spot in Japan, where it is buoyed by the dubbing talent of comedienne Aya Hirano, producing $3.3 million in ticket sales from 540 screens.
Critics have generally received the film negatively.
The movie premieres in North America and the UK on April 9th.
Via Hollywood Reporter.
Fans have complained about liberties taken with the story (even the Dragonball creator cannot bring himself to praise it), the casting of non-Asians, the acting, etc., yet still they crowd cinemas the world over, along with the general audience who are presumably the bulk of patrons.
Continued success looks set to guarantee a series of films for fans to bemoan, and then meekly watch.

I wanted to clear something up that seems to be a misconception... This movie is based off Dragonball, not Dragonball Z.
But the orginal working title was Dragon Ball Z, hence the title.

It doesn't really matter as I was not correcting the title but the posts were people said it was based of Dragonball Z which is not the case. It is based off the first Dragonball series and not the Dragonball Z series.
