PFS Special: Ruins of Bonekeep: Level 1: The Silent Grave - By Jason Bulmahn, Pathfinder Lead Designer: Just outside the city of Absalom sits the ruins of a long-forgotten siege castle. Torn down nearly to its foundation, the ruins of Bonekeep have been silent for decades, but the Pathfinders have learned of a series of dungeons beneath its crumbling white pillars, and it appears that they are not-so silent after all. Foul creatures and deadly traps await those daring to plunder its depths, but the rumor of untold wealth and forgotten relics make such dangers worth any risk. This is a Pathfinder Society special event for 3rd- through 7th-level characters (Tier 3–7). This is a deadly event designed to push characters to their limit and beyond, but with such danger comes greater reward for those that survive. (Slot 2 thru 12)

Nice

David,

Is there any updates you would like to share? Still accepting GM's?

I will never stop accepting GM's (especially good ones). I also am looking for a few front desk helpers (for those that would love to get a free room or badge but don't think they are up to judging yet).

This may seem like a silly question, but I've never been to a convention before, and I can't seem to find a straight answer on the Winter Fantasy website: does buying a badge cover you to play in PFS sessions for the entire con? Or do you need to buy a badge, and then buy additional tickets to each specific slot?

(Hoping not. But if so, how much are tickets to each slot?)

Each slot is $8. Each slot needs a ticket.

What he said. The badge covers entry, vendors, all the boardgames you can play from a massive library, and meet-n-greats with show guests and such. Games have an additional small fee. I've found having a small fee lets us better gauge interest in events and people actually show-up when they have skin in the game (or turn them back in for a refund so somebody else can sit down to play). Free tickets just equals people grabbing lots they won't use and makes it impossible to gauge needed volunteers.

Makes sense. I'm sure it'll be well worth the cost. Everybody whose feedback on prior years I've read seems to agree on that. I'm kind of bummed I missed the deadline for online registration. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it until just recently because of work. Are badges and tickets payable by credit card? I don't tend to like carrying a lot of cash.

Had an absolutely fabulous time, despite having to leave early and miss out on the 2nd night of drunken revelry ...

Sovereign Court 4/5 ** Venture-Agent, Indiana—Valparaiso

I had a great time too.

Highlight for me had to be running 2 tables of Bonekeep.

The Exchange 5/5

My highlight was Bonekeep with Jason Bulmahn as the GM. I died, got raised, got my negative levels removed; now broke I went back and died again. It was a privilege to play as Jason's table.

You ran my table! And then you even came and played with Ekkie at "Rise of the Goblin Guild" :)

As a normal judge, it was good fun seeing a VL run my table, then come play at my table the next day. Good times - the special was a ton of fun (the gunslinger holding the door so the party could try to run out.... yeesh, I had the last 8 or so rounds of combat at 4hp)

Sovereign Court 4/5 ** Venture-Agent, Indiana—Valparaiso

After running two very serious tables of Bonekeep playing a lighthearted session of Rise of the Goblin Guild was most welcome. I'm glad the table of Cyphermage I was supposed to tun that slot didn't go off. I had a great time with it. And I got to play alongside my wife too.

As for Bonekeep your party was VERY glad you were there. I think you definitely dished out the most damage. Your gunslinger is insane!

Sovereign Court 3/5

Didn't get to play the special but played other games. Had fun and hope the event continues to grow.

Silver Crusade 5/5

My highlight was the group from Kentucky whom I dubbed "Delta Force", they ran through the special with extreme efficiency as a 4 man team. I was told to take it easy on them initially because they were a 4 man team. I stopped taking it easy about half-way through, and they only lost one man, and that was due to a really bad tactical decision to save gold.

They walked out with the "freebie" artifact though.

Oh, it was especially hilarious when I turned to the 2 VC's when things turned south for them, and I go "VC Survey on mercy says?" They both turned their thumbs down. Lots of energy at that moment. :P

Yeah they were a fun table. I ran them through cultist kiss. Very nearly wiped them. Then again all three tables were terrified at the end of that mod.

My favorite table was a feast of sigils table I ran. I barely got to read any box text and they annihilated the mod mostly though roleplay. It was definitely nc17 though. It was hilarious in a mod thay was supposed to be anything but.

In fact every table I ran was excellent.

Daniel, I was the member of "Delta Force" who died. Speaking for the entire group, we had a great time at your table-- and the artifact will be so useful to the poor fools (er, adventuring companions) who normally have to suffer my god's peculiarities.

All in all, I had a great time at Winter Fantasy (not a single bad game) and am already looking forward to going back again next year.

As the wizard of "Delta Force", I would like to thank you Daniel for running a really fun table. And that scenario required some quick tactical decisions that we fell short on. It was good practice for our group for the GenCon Special I hope! Thanks to all the GM's who made Winter Fantasy lots of fun.

When the next part of Bonekeep comes out. I would like to run that for you guys too, if able. Not to sound elitist, but I rarely am equipped with a mod that is designed to challenge groups like yours. I am glad I was able to give you guys a tactical challenge. You even started to force my long suppressed southern accent to surface. :)

Did you run the table of Wes, Thea, Wes's kids, and my all a sudden drug dealing Sorcerer? If so, it was well played sir. Well played indeed.

Brian, ZombieRaptorAsmodeanJesus asks you to be kinder to him next time around.

Daniel, I'm sorry we didn't get to play. *coughcomepreparedtojudgecough* I hope we have a chance to do so next time.

5/5

My favorite table was the Cultist Kiss, I dont want to spoil to much.

A group of 4 clerics a rogue turned a bar into a impromptu Temple of Cayden. Allot of fun.

I also enjoyed the GM'ing "Delta Force" during a specific wedding.

Sovereign Court 4/5 ** Venture-Agent, Indiana—Valparaiso

There were only 3 Clerics Chris. The other one was an Oracle.

Apparently you worshipped Cayden so much you're imagining an extra cleric :-)

As the Archer in the "Delta Force" squad i would like to thank you for making the Special an enjoyable experience, although I would have liked more time to keep trying. I wish we would have had the other two members of our so called "Delta Force" but that could not make it to the con.

As another member of the delta force, I'd like to thank you for running a great game and challenging not only our group but each of us individually. I replayed that freaking room ( you know which one) and we coulda dominated it but we failed our personal wisdom checks on that one. I hope you get a chance to rune the next one for us and maybe the rest of our force can be present, so you can witness our carnage at our best!!!!

Also a shout out to all the other DMs as they ran great games as well. Especially the one who cultistly kiss my ass cheek.

Sadly, this was a strange enough mod that I am not sure if that was my table. In my table there was indeed a drug dealing sorcerer (or maybe it was a bard sitting next to a sorc) in a table of 5. Two of the PCs, including the drug dealing sorcerer, kept throwing themselves at the NPCs, which led to some completely off the rails humorous encounters that destroyed the mod.

I also ran the same group through Cultist Kiss. Was this your table? That was a very fun group!

What threw me off was the goofy schedule and the lack of properly announced times. I had read half the scenario when Chris Bonnett showed up with me finishing my reading of it. (At that point maps were printed and I had already gone over stat blocks). Chris goes schedule change...again...scenario starts in 15 minutes. I'd woken up intending to give myself 2 hours to finish reading it. I got 30 minutes of that due to bad scheduling.

For the record I was not the only GM there, and I was the one who had never run it compared to mister Co-Michigan VC who'd run it 2-3 times. He just wanted to hammer me with it because I was hung over. Vindictive turd. ;)

Yeah that incorrectly printed schedule threw off several DMs. If a Marshall didn't inform me of the error during the morning slot, I would have been late as well.

I was given improper information about schedules a couple of times during that con. That was my only complaint about the con.

Daniel, I would be very happy to have you run subsequent levels of Bonekeep for our group. I have my fingers crossed that it will not be released at Paizocon, as this is the first year that I probably won't be able to attend.

Exccccuuussses! Lets us eats it precious!
Seriously, Dave should have a better scheduleing system for PFS next year.
Was gooood times however.

Sovereign Court

This was my first con ever. Let me just say, I can't imagine it having gone better. The only thing I was bummed about was not getting to play the special, due to low turnout for the slot I signed up for. The following morning Chris stepped up to run it even though he wasn't scheduled to; and I have to say, it really made the con for me.

I enjoyed all the tables I played at, most definitely; but I thought him going out of his way like that was above and beyond. And the mod itself was the best I've played yet.

Now bare with me, cause I met SO many new people, it can be a bit tough to keep track of who is who; but who all, who was at WF, is going to Articon? Same with M Dog?

2/5

I primarily ran at WF and I'm going to Articon, but not m dog.

Sovereign Court 4/5 ** Venture-Agent, Indiana—Valparaiso

I was at WF and am running PFS at Arcticon.

I was planning on being at M Dog but due to family obligations I don't think I can make it after all.

Silver Crusade 5/5

The suckering of minis at articon is calling... I have a serious soft spot for minis.

I'm the PFS coordinator for MDog.

I apparently got to run the PFS WF exclusive the most at WF.

I know I met Brian at the very end; we talked about the weather, if I'm thinking of the right person.

And I played with Dan; Blakros Matrimony I believe. The paladin that wanted to nail everybody right? :)

Just one of the twins. An ongoing schtick for that character is to moon over a character or NPC for the entirety of a session.

My pirate acts hung over for all of his sessions.

My inquisitor is monosyllabic as much as I can get away with.

Glad you enjoyed Bonekeep, I think your table was the only one that didn't get a single character death. Wisely your party chose to play down, also your party played very well in it.

Yep those guys did a great job for a mod designed for 6 players. I was originally going to be at that table but the marshals split it when an 8th player showed up. They werent aware that the mod was designed to be played with 6 pc's.

We would hve rocked with my blaster evoker, instead at my 4 man table we got two players killed - I ended up with a net loss of about 1300gp. bummer.

Alan Patrick ran that table for us. We achieved all that we set out to achieve at that table.

Glad you enjoyed that table.

As the guy trying to marshal the slot, leaving all 7 of you on Jason's table and leaving the other table with three players, plus one guy replaying for no credit, and one released LFR judge in his first ever PFS - with a pregen - wasn't optimal. It was a coin toss whether to split the 7/5 into 6/6 and deal with some folks not getting to play with Jason. Dan convinced me not to do it.
A couple more tables that slot would have made things better all around, but that's something for next year.
