Sorry, it took a while to get the gang together, everyone was busy with their stuff.
I allowed the use of hero points and traits.
PCs:
Paladin (tower shield and longsword)
Fighter (Scythe)
Monk(Enchanted knuckles with fire damage)
Wizard (Evoker)
Enocunter 1 - Village
I had the mythic dire wolf attack the pcs in concert with other three wolves to position them for flanking attacks and to trip as many characters as possible. To no avail.
- Fighter carved through the wolf like through butter with a full attack, and spend a hero point for another attack at top attack bonus.
- Wizard killed the wolves with a well placed fireball.
- Monk killed one of the constrictor snakes who was strangling a villager and the paladin killed the other.
- Fight was over in a single round
Summary, mythic dire wolf was too weak, had too few hitpoints and no DR. It went down too easy.
Encounter 2 - Clearing
- One of the bears didn't get to act at all because of low initiative and was massacred in a joint effort of the paladin and fighter.
- Wizard burned the treant pretty badly with a scorching ray, taking almost a third of it's hitpoints
- Monk unleashed a beating on the second bear, damaging it nicely.
- Fighter charged the treant almost killing it with a single attack
- Wizard finished off the bear and the treant with a well placed mythic fireball
- The fight didn't last a full 2 rounds
Summary, non mythic creatures don't stand a chance against mythic characters, and even mythic creatures are pretty weak against mythic characters.
Encounter 3 - The bridge
- Monk jumped across the chasm, easily rolling a 30+ on an acrobatics check, while burning a hero point.
- Wizard levitated down and up
- Fighter climbed up and down the chasm walls without using a point of mythic power
- Paladin fell and couldn't climb up so the wizard had to levitate back and cast levitate on him
Summary, not really challenging for mythic character, or for regular characters with hero points for that matter.
Enocunter 4 - The mound
- Hydra died from body damage, mostly done by the fighter (nobody tried to cut off a single head)
- Hydra missed a lot (1 in 7 attacks hit) because of the low attack bonus
Summary, it was too easy. Hydra didn't do almost any damage to the PCs and went down too easy, not having a chance to even use fast healing once (yep a single round of combat)
Encounter 5 - Three Hydras
Unhappy with how the fight went, players asked me to pit three hydras against them. They went through them like a hot knife through butter, fighter actually managing to deal 121 points of damage and killing a hydra in a single hit. They took some damage, mostly through lucky rolls on my side (i rolled more then 15 20s in that combat alone), but the combat lasted for less then 3 full rounds before the hydras were dead.
Conclusion: Mythic characters are awesome, options are awesome and they work well. Players grumbled a bit about having to choose what to use their swift actions for, but that was it.
- Amazing initiative seems too good (i know this is being addressed, i just want to do my job to the fullest), although i wouldn't change it for the monsters, it feels great and thematic in a way.
- Mythic monsters aren't improved enough to contend with a mythic character, i would either have them do more damage, but more preferably i would have them be much more resilient. More hit points and maybe some kind of healing ability that they could activate with mythic power.
- Marshalls are juggernauts of aid. What the Paladin/Marshall pulled off with marshal abilities shortened the fights every time.
- Champion's choice of Precision, Stanch wounds and To the death made him an unstoppable behemoth of death. Hydra could only cry as it didn't do anything to him.
- Mythic dodge helped the Monk/Guardian be almost unhittable with a 28 AC...others weren't lagging behind either. The lowest AC in the group was the wizard with a 23...yeah...
- Additionally, they wanted to fight against five hydras, but we didn't have the time. I'm sure that they would have prevailed.
Hope that it helps a little.
