Gunslinger is my first class i have used and will continue to use it for now. Tho next game im going to use the archetype Pistolero! ill experiment with other classes sometime in the future! Please go easy on teh newbie! :P

Hrm, gunslinger isn't the direction I'd recommend for a newbie. There's a lot of bookkeeping with ammo costs, you have to watch range increments more carefully than anyone else, you're the only one whose weapon can explode on a bad attack roll, etc.

You sure you want to go that route right at the beginning? I mean, if you're up to it, more power to you! Just giving fair warning is all. :)

Not to disagree with Jiggy.. but well sorry.. hell yeah to disagreeing. I was new to Pathfinder 6 months ago and was wondering what to try for a first character in PFS. I had a quick reading of the free guide to pathfinder society and decided I was going to kick the Fantasy trope in the teeth and play a gunslinger.

Now as of December 4,2012 my Musket Master Gunslinger has hit level 5 and I have not looked back. It has been an interesting ride and Ive tried to keep to the creed of what I buy in a chronicle I used in the chronicle in regards to ammunition.

I will agree with Jiggy in regards to keeping track of ammunition purchase and use and don't forget that ammo costs are cheaper because of Gunsmithing (and yes people do forget)

Also remember you can change your character at any point before you hit 2nd level.

Welcome to the Gun club!

I believe Jiggy merely meant to caution a new player, just the same way we would caution a brand new Pathfinder player picking up a wizard.

That said, I think you should probably avoid archetypes for now. It's a pretty common thing to automatically go for the archetypes, but a lot of them prevent you from seeing what the base class is capable of.

Hey Enoki!

Yep, that would be me that ran you through the scenario last week. I do hope to see you at my table again soon, and I am planning on showing up at GLG more often to make games happen and help out Christie with it all.

Look forward to seeing you more at the dice coliseum!

Welcome to pathfinder society, play whatever you like, but remember that the last time to change your character (without something causing you to have to change it) is before playing the character at second level, so if you are not sold on the gunslinger before leveling to level 2, you may want to reexamine your options at that time.

My advice is this: Read. Read, read, read, and then read some more. Now go back and reread all of that.

I started my gaming in society... mmmm, about half a year ago now. But before that, I read over the rules again and again. Granted, that was because at the time I was waiting for a home game that never happened. But I will never regret the time I spent reading. I was able to participate fully, from my first session on, because I spent that time studying the rules. I've seen a lot of people come in and want to just start playing without having read the rules at all, and while I'm happy to help them build their characters, it gets really difficult when they have no idea how play works.

It's all free online, you're really only hurting yourself by not studying a little. Start with the class you're looking at, then spend the next forever on the combat rules. You'll be amazed how much of what's in there gets forgotten or misapplied.(coughcoverrulescough) Just don't turn into a rules lawyer, and your new-found knowledge will bring you happiness and tactical superiority.

Jester. He's awesome. He's also a dead ringer for one of the NPC venture captains. :-)

Hey guys! thanks for the advice and the info! its great hearing everyones input! i figured that using a gunslinger would be fun since fighter classes are fun! I dont do the whole magic thing so well and me with a sword doesnt seem to work out. saw what happens when a fighter rolls misses 7 times in a row...its kind of a no bueno lol im just gonna have to keep careful attention to ammo consumption(10 doses of black powder and 30 ammo? who made that pre-gen???). might just dump most of the gold into black powder and ammo lol its a learning process so im just gonna read up on the class and see which direction would be more useful for the party in the long run and try not to accidently shoot the tanks ear off lol

@Jester: yeah ill deffinitly join your table again when i see you at GLG! that was a fun start for me!

Just as long as you realize Jester's on loan and we get him back eventually! :-)

Enoki; When you get some time on Saturday, I will explain on the Gunsmith feat for you and how it applies to PFS. You will be very surprised and actually quite happy with your Gunslinger.

See you then!

Liberty's Edge

lol thanks for letting us "borrow" him

@Jester yeah that would be awesome! ill try and come in a little early like a little past 5:15ish and do some touch ups on my character. oh and get a bunch of questions out of the way lol
