So, just a thought I've been having after looking at more recruitment threads for play-by-posts; I have several aliases that I've created for characters where the game either petered out when players/gm disappeared, or just weren't accepted in the first place, yet they still appear in the drop down list when I make a post. Would it be possible to have a way to retire aliases so that they still show up on the account profile, but under a different category (Retired) and no longer show up in the drop down list? It just bugs me having them cluttering up the list.
If this has been suggested before then I apologize, or if--even better--it is already possible somehow it'd be awesome if someone could point it out to me :)
Thanks guys! Keep being awesome Paizo!

This was actually one of my key suggestions in my topic "Further PBP & Campaign Issues". I believe an alias "retirement" system prevents alias bloat while simultaneously allowing Paizo to not have to deal with an issue of people deleting their posts/aliases (they have said in the past that they are not comfortable with posts being easily deleted).
I think it could be modelled in the same way campaigns are retired- you could see your aliases in your aliases tab with a list of "previous aliases". While these aliases are still tied to your account, their presence on your alias tab is minimal and they are hidden from the list of "post as" options available even making a new post.

I for one have also collected a few aliases, and all but one of them are obsolete and unlikely to ever re-surface again.
Some "soft delete" feature that leaves them in place, but removes them from the list for new posts would really be helpful in preventing misclicks. Saves on "edited posts", too.
I really like this idea. I know why we can't delete any aliases who've posted but being able to remove them from the pull down list would be nice. It should be reversible, so say if we try out for another PBP where an old character will work we can reactivate the alias we want to use. (I so desperately want to play my Ustalavan witch some day... *sigh*)
