PFS item purchase question

I am confused about the item purchase rules. I have read lots of threads and listened to many arguments on the topic. From what I gather, you are allowed to buy any +1 armor, shield, weapon plus any level 0,1 potion or scroll at any time. On top of that, you can buy items based on your fame score. As well, you can buy items from a chronicle sheet that you acquired. My question is this, why would a chronicle sheet for tier 4-5 have a level 2 potion of it (like cure moderate wounds) for 300 gp when you should very easily already have the fame required to buy any potion for that price? Is there something I am missing? Can you only buy level 2 or 3 potions when they are listed on your chronicle sheet? Or are these only for those level 3+ characters that have very low fame?

This. Or it might be of use to a level 1-2 PC that plays up with a table of mostly level 4-5 characters.

I think they list those in case there are those that don't know the rules that well. Someone might have posted the reasoning why (I find cloaks of resistance on low and high tiers, usually at a +1)

The last two weeks I've had a player play up in a 4-5 with a brand new character. He now is still 1st level and has almost 4000gp, and access to the potions they found. His fame is only 4 and you need 5 fame before you can normally purchase a 2nd level potion. Its rare, but it can happen.

That is what I thought. Thanks. It just seems strange to list so many potions and scrolls on chronicle sheets that you would normally be able to purchase anyway at that level anyway.

Yeah, and the opposite is also true. There are some that just can't catch a break with Faction Missions, or refuse to do any of them. Their fame is very much lower than average for their level, and so those items are really nice to have.

(And honestly, I think people would have a fit if they didn't list them, even if no one ever really planned on buying them anyway)

As someone who has written a few scenarios, I can tell you that the authors are required to list all non-core assumption magic items included in their scenario in the "chronicle sheet" they submit to Paizo.

I posted the exact same thread a week or two ago. So I sympathize with your frustration!

Got the same answers, but from different people.

Also, a lot of the older scenarios -- with their Chronicles -- were written under different rules, so the listed items were more significant.
