Leveling Up when Multiclassing / Monk Flurry of Blows question

Rules Questions

Ok, So I am pretty brand new to this game, so Im wondering how experience works (I know, Its a very nooby question). I want to multiclass from Sorcerer to Zen Archer, and then later to Arcane Archer, however Im being told that when leveling up its total level (so to go from level 1 to 2 in Sorcerer while having 4 levels in Monk it would take the same experience as if I was leveling from level 5 which seems stupid.) However another group of Pathfinder players I know agree with me that levels should be seperated, so going from Level 1-2 in Sorcerer always takes the same amount, no matter how many other levels in other classes you have.

So how does that work?

Another question is about the monks Flurry of Blows, it says in the Flurry of Blows section this: "For the purpose of these attacks, the monk’s base attack bonus is equal to his monk level."

So does this mean I add my normal base attack ONTO the Flurry base Attack? So like a Level 2 monk, for Flurry of Blows gets +0/+0

However do I get to add my +1 normal BAB and +2 for being a lvl 2 monk on top of the +0/+0?

to answer your first question, your character level (not class level/s) is the determining factor - so the version you and your friends think is silly is the correct one :)

add together all your levels - so if you were a 3rd level sorc, 2nd level zen archer, then you would be a 5th level character - and therefore to gain your 6th character level you would need the appropriate amount of xp.

this is actually pretty important for game balance if you think about it for a bit.

your second question is interesting, but it works like this. the values given in the flurry of blows tables replaces your monk BAB. (by the way a 2nd level monk has +1 to BAB)

you can then add your other attack bonuses to this, to work out your total attack bonus - for example two level so of sorc would give you +1, and 14 str another +2, for an attack routine of +3/+3.

edit - i failed to completely understand your flurry of blows question. the values in the flurry of blows table already assume your BAB as being the same as your monk level (the +2 you mentioned) however there is a penalty to hit for essentially fighting with two weapons, or if you prefer you can think of it as losing some accuracy due to attacking so quickly.
