Carol Ferris AKA Star Sapphire

Comics

Hi there, I'm preparing a Legion character which is based off of the Carol Ferris aka Star Sapphire character from DC comics. I have some background of the character but the websites I have visited do not provide much detail in regards to her powers. Can any one tell me what powers she has and try and give me an idea of how good they are? Perhaps the best way to explain how awesome or not so awesome her powers are would be to tell me whom they are comparabile to towards other DC characters, otherwise rate them on a scale of 1-19 using 5 as the average (not 10).

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks Much!

I'd suggest starting Here Except for being controlled more by their emotions, She's GL's power level.

Ok, I've read all about Star Sapphire and it seems there are some discrepancies in powers between the Ring she has and the Star Sapphire Gem....can somebody break these down for me? Exacly which powers does she receive from which item?

Also, Wiki stated:

Carol Ferris also possesses super strength, super speed, and durability by the star sapphire ring.

Exactly what is "Durability?" Is this suppose to be the same as Invulnerability or is this a separate power as per DC comics? How powerful is her Invulnerability and or Durability? Comparable to what DC Comic character?

I'm also confused on the fact that some sources say that the Star Sapphire women have a "pathological fear of men". At the same time other sources say that they are able to....

"The rings can also detect when a love is in jeopardy, locate it, and then create a connection to the embattled heart that can be used as a tether. Sapphires are also shown as being able to show others their greatest love."

Would someone clairify this information for me...Please

Thanks Much!

Eileen

Let' see if I can help (going from memory here)...

It sounds like you're looking at references to two different versions of the Star Sapphires. The ones in the new Animated series have rings, and the comments that

seem to fit that more than the earlier history.

Early Star Sapphire used *only* the gem. She had powers equivalent to (Hal Jordan) Green Lantern's, and was one of his arch-enemies. Carol Ferris was dominated by the gem into another personality, and had no memories of her actions as Star Sapphire. In this period, she also once faced Superman and forced him to obey her commands.

The comments about Super Speed, Super Strength, and Durability (which would be some kind of extra resilience, but not Invulnerability, probably), would also seem to fit this early version more than the animated version.

At some point, the Star Sapphire gem "possessed" other women, so there have been other variations of the core Star Sapphire villainess who were not based on Carol Ferris.

Later additions to the lore included making the Zamarons an offshoot of the same race as the Guardians of the Universe.

The War of Light stories made the Star Sapphires into another warrior Corps of the emotional spectrum (and gave them rings), while adding more allies/enemies to the mix (Red, Orange, Blue, Indigo) of existing Green, Yellow, and now Violet.

The Mayfair Games "DC Heroes" RPG had a crossover going with DC Comics.. DC published descriptions of many characters in a format designed to be compatible with the game. Depending on the sources of the Wiki articles you are looking at, that may be affecting the content in some ways.

Currently, Green Ronin has the rights to do a Mutants & Masterminds version of the DC Universe. There is a 2-volume set describing the characters; I will try to remember to check my copy when I get home tonight. I am sure there will be an entry (or more than one) for Star Sapphire in there that will describe her powers.

From the current Green Ronin DC Adventures game listings:

Power levels range from 1-20

Star Sapphire (Carol Feris)

Power Level : 13
For comparison, Superman and Wonder Woman are 15, Sinestro is 14, Batman is 12, Green Lanterns Jordan and Rayner are 14s and Stewart and Gardner are 13s.

The ring serves as an AI and database, and provides these powers:
Communications to/from the central power battery
Flight
Force Field (with life support)
Violet energy force manipulation:
Conversion crystals
Force blast (ranged attack)
Force Constructs
Lifting
Mobile Constructs
Hearth's Connection (can save others)
Sense Love (long range)
Universal Translator

All-in-all, the listing has no historical versions, unlike other entries. The space went to additional details on the Star Sapphires as an organization, it looks like.
