Okay, so since these boards input was very useful with my last character concept, I figured I'd come to you guys again. I want to make a "Rouge"-ish thief NPC, largely inspired by Catwoman, who uses a lot of scrolls & magical devices as part of her kit to get away, in addition to beguiling charm.
To that end, I'm torn between a few options.
- The first is, a Catfolk Cat Burglar. On the one hand, it screams what I want thematically, with Phantom Presence. Trap Saboteur is useful too. On the other hand, I don't like the loss of Uncanny Dodge, since if such a character comes to blows with the party; Uncanny Dodge could make or break her.
- Seconly is the Kitsune Trickster. I like the cleverness of Guile feature, and another spell like isn't bad. Also, somewhat ironically, I like the flavor of a non-anthropomorphic thief over an anthropomorphic one, even if it's just a different form of the Kitsune.
- Finally a Kitsune/Catfolk Ninja. Generally it seems that the Ninja is a better version of the Rogue all around; No Trace more or less copies Phantom Presence & most of the other abilities can be mimicked with magical items & clever usage, and the ninja powers generally seem better for combat.
So, any input? Also, planning to build to level 15 if that helps things.

And by cat burglar, I mewn cat burglar/ninja. They stack.
Hm... I hadn't considered that.
However, can such a character survive at all against a party for even a single round? I mean, the uncanny dodge ability at least makes it so they don't immediately drop dead when suprised. Without it, I don't even think she'll have a chance of turning invisible. Course, the counter solution is to not get caught, but I can't rule out anything with PCs...

We have a Cat Burglar in my party (not a ninja, though).
He kind of just sits around for a while, waiting for a flanking spot, goes in, deals pretty good damage, and then has to run back if the DM decides to attack him.
That being said, I feel like you aren't giving up too much for losing Uncanny dodge and the player just isn't optimizing.
Anyways, Catfolk get Scent if they choose to lose low-light vision, which kind of fixes the surprise portion. Just be sneakier than your enemies.
