Is there a spell..?

..that kind of works like 'false life' except instead of temp hp, it gives you temporary points that allow you to go further into negative hit points without dying? it would not affect your con score, or any HP you have above zero.

If not, what would you think about a player researching a spell of this ilk?
What equivalent spell level do you think something like this would be? I was thinking a level 1 spell.


cast false life and play dead when you reach +10 hit points.

Jokes aside, it would be a powerful spell, as you could be healed during combat and not lose your "safty net". False life is a 2nd level spell, and I would put the spell research at a higher level or shorter duration.


it is fundamentally worse than false life, why would it be higher level? if false life gives you 10 extra hit points, meaning you could be at 10 hp and still act normally when without false life you would be at 0, how is being unconscious with the same effect more powerful?

both abilities would give you 10 extra hit points. but in that 10 hp variation, the normal version of the spell has you conscious and able to take actions, eg. heal yourself or escape, while the OP version you would be unconscious and helpless.

because they could stack i would keep it as a level 2 spell, but being fundamentally weaker than false life i would also let the spell give a +5 or so to stabilization checks to stop bleeding, or something like that.
