Water Walk and the grease spell

The description "you hover an inch above the ground" technically makes it sound like you could walk across chasms or canyons, but I'm sure that's against RAI.

However, I'm assuming someone with a ring of water walking is immune to the ground applicatio of the grease spell, since his or her feet are not touching the ground?

They're only hovering an inch or two over liquids. Not the ground and certainly not chasms.

Grease on water wouldn't bother the water walking character.

Grease on ground would as they are not hovering while over the ground.

I'm not really following your logic.

I'd say grease is no more or less liquid than quicksand or oil, both cleared as counting as liquid in the description.

Ohh. You want grease to count as liquid for the purpose of water walk. I gotcha. Yea, you'd probably be immune from the ground version of grease. Not a big deal.

didn't really claim it was a big deal, just prepping to dm an encounter where I know this is going to happen and checking.

It actually makes a ring of water walking a little more useful, since grease is a pretty popular spell
