I've always wanted to have a character that rides a griffon. The character I'm envisioning isn't a druid, ranger, paladin, or other animal companion/mount type of class, probably just a fighter. Is there any way in Society play for such a character to acquire a griffon mount?
I don't want to enslave one; I would prefer to befriend a free griffon, even that means buying one, freeing it, and then befriending it.
Any possibilities?

Griffons are available in Ultimate Equipment. 8000 gp for a 500 lb griffon. (Edit, actually maybe not, since they are Magical Beasts, and AR page says animals.)
Griffon (COMBAT TRAINED)
Price 8,000 gp
Weight 500 lbs.
These deadly but majestic fliers are the favored aerial cavalry of many kingdoms. While griffons can be trained, some good deities consider doing so akin to enacting slavery, insisting that a griffon must come to its rider on its own free will. The price listed is for a trained griffon; free will is bought with different currency (determined by the GM). More information on griffons can be found in the Bestiary.
Since the whole "up to the GM" stuff is left out of PFS, buying it is your option here.
EDIT: Also included some stuff from the Bestiary on what you'd need to do to ride it.
Before it can be ridden in combat, a griffon requires
practice bearing the weight of its rider. In order to be
trained successfully, a griffon must first be helpful toward
its trainer (possibly requiring a Diplomacy, Intimidate,
or Handle Animal check). After that, 6 weeks of practice
and a successful DC 20 Handle Animal check is sufficient
for the beast to be comfortable with its burden, and due
to their intelligence, trained griffons can be treated as
knowing every trick listed in the Handle Animal skill
description, possibly even responding to new, simple
requests made in Common.
Griffons can carry up to 300 pounds as a light load,
600 pounds as a medium load, and 900 pounds as a heavy
load. Riding a griffon requires an exotic saddle.

I'm afraid that's not entirely correct.
