Strong Jaw

Rules Questions

The spell Strong Jaw reads:

Spoiler:
Laying a hand upon an allied creature's jaw, claws, tentacles, or other natural weapons, you enhance the power of that creature's natural attacks. Each natural attack that creature makes deals damage as if the creature were two sizes larger than it actually is. If the creature is already Gargantuan or Colossal-sized, double the amount of damage dealt by each of its natural attacks instead. This spell does not actually change the creature's size; all of its statistics except the amount of damage dealt by its natural attacks remain unchanged.

When it says, "If the creature is already Gargantuan or Colossal-sized, double the amount of damage dealt by each of its natural attacks instead", should I read that as "double the amount of base damage dealt", as in, double the damage dice but not strength bonus? A T-Rex with 8d6+22 is nice, a T-Rex with 8d6+44 would be ridiculous.

You should read it as doubling base damage, yes, as that is clearly the intent.

However, strictly by RAW, which is clearly in error, you're looking at 8d6+44.

Strength modifier to damage, is a modifier. It gets added on after the damage roll of the natural attack and is not part of the natural attack itself even though it gets listed in the stat block for ease of reference.
