Curse of the Crimson Throne

Shingles:
So I'm doing my prep work for the shingle chase and I'm realizing that this is a rather difficult thing to do since most of the skill checks are now just "acrobatics" checks what did you do to remedy this? or did you just have it very perception and and climb check based?

While I can't really answer your question - try posting your question in the AP section as well.

Ruyan.

I swiped in things like Diplomacy to run through a garden party on a rooftop, Perception to notice shortcuts, Escape Artist, those kinds of things.

Thankyou very much for the help

Garden Party in the Shingles? Undoubtedly a tough crowd so Intimidate or Bluff could work also...

Basically though you want to make it interesting for all of the Characters participating in the chase. What I would do is review their skillsets and take a few of the best (and worst) skills for each character and then create scenarios or obstacles that can make use of the associated skill.

Ice Titan's idea about the garden party is a perfect example of that but feel free to get creative.

I ran that scene last sunday and stole some ideas from another thread around here to customize my chase cards. While I made sure that movement skills like Acrobatics, Climb etc. were most important (this is a scene where Rogues, Monks and the like have an opportunity to shine), I also included some other Skill Checks and even Saving Throws.

Examples:

- Knowledge (Engineering) to use a pulley at a construction side as a shortcut (by cutting the correct rope)

- Disable Device to pick a very simple lock and create a shortcut

- Intimidate to make some gang members step aside

- Stealth to pass a single Hellknight

- Fortitude Save to pass the tannery without being nauseated

- Reflex Save to pass a beekeeper's roofside garden without being swarmed by the bees

And so on. Even then, some characters didn't do very well and it fell to the Wizard to cast Expeditious Retreat on himself and then charm Trinia.

Dalwyn suggested some more (in his compagnon de route #7)
flock of pigeon (DC10 vs handle animal)
nest of pseudo dragons (DC 12 vs knowledge arcana)
Shingles signs (10 vs lknowledge (local)
the catapult (disable device 15 or knowledge enginnery 10)
the private garden (disable device 15 or diplomacy 15)
guarding dogs (handle animal 15)
imp hideout (knowledge plane 15 or stealth)
and so on...

I actually laid out a flight path ahead of time, with alternate routes and at least two ways to get past each obstacle. I will see if I can attach it, but its in Visio....maybe I can make it just a word doc and copy/paste. Knowing what the shingles looked like, I don't think I added any garden parties, but we did have a pseudodragon nest and a choker attack that was interesting. Our Paladin did have a hard time of it though.

..of course my group caught her fairly easily, but oh well.

I'm planning on using the Chase Deck for this, seems to be made for it.

That looks very interesting. I'd love to see it, if you can get it to us somehow.
