Red John: Best theories?

I was thinking Red John was Reidh Jan a Germanic word for To Prepare (as in for a Journey). So our mastermind of evil sees 'himself' as preparing for a journey or the preparation of 'his' victims for a Journey. A mortician might prepare the dead for a journey.

Anyone else?
