Anybody knows if this is correct? I mean... it's ridiculous. A Sea-inspired witch archetype with no swim as class skill...

As a cleric who has Trickery domain: he must present his sacred symbol every time he cast or channel...
That's the same thing as say: "Hello I am cleric of Norgorber... you know THE god of secrets..."
Thank you the secrecy!!! ;-)

they have a hext that allows water breathing, they dont need it.

This isn't 3.X. You can still be pretty damn good at non-class skills.

Water breathing doesn't replace swimming

And the point isn't just the proficiency. You live, eat, swim in the sea. You should be good at swimming in it so you can use your empathy.

RAW way of solving the issue? Use an Undine (has a swim speed and treats swim as a class skill), trade the hydraulic push for amphibious and go to town :-)

I AGREE. I had to make a login just to discuss this!

It's horrible. Sea witch is already pretty non-optimal in general, which my party was ok with. We ran into an area with a pool and they were all ...here is your moment to shine! You go, girl!

And then I looked at my sheet and realized that even with the swim skill I took, I completely sucked at swimming and it was just enough to offset the str issue to at least not be negative.

Thankfully, my king crab familiar that lives in my hair was able to swim and do what needed to be done. Honestly, at this point, my crab and my hair are way more effective than I am.

Sad face x 1,000,000!

ETA so it's not just griping: I think it would be better if the bonus hex gave some swimming skill.

I would agree, give the archetype SWIM as a class skill doesn't break anything. Ask your DM to house rule it in.

Alternatively, you can ask him to house rule a swim speed (probably half your land speed) for the Water Breathing hex. With a swim speed, you wouldn't need the skill at all.
