Way of the Weapon Master (Ex)

At 2nd level, a weapon adept gains Weapon Focus as a bonus feat with one of his monk weapons. At 6th level, the monk gains Weapon Specialization with the same weapon as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the prerequisites.

This ability replaces evasion.

Does this apply to Unarmed Strikes?

I don't believe Unarmed Strikes have the Monk special quality, but they are listed in the Fighter's Monk weapon group.

Looking at the description for Flurry, it mentions both unarmed strikes and monk weapons; that would make me think that this would also see that distinction.

There is also the fact that Perfect Strike does not work with unarmed strikes, so at the very least an answer of "no" is RAI.

No they don't, sadly enough.

Thank you. That pretty much confirms my thoughts.

Now, being that a Monk does not normally have to meet prerequisites, could said Monk select an exotic Monk weapon (Kama, double chained perhaps?) if they have not yet taken EWP for that weapon?

To expand on my above post, I'm of the opinion that a Weapon Adept could select any one of his "monk weapons" with which to gain Weapon Focus & Weapon Specialization, not just those that can be used with Perfect Strike.

In other words, not Unarmed Strikes, but Temple Swords would be permitted by RAW as they are "monk" weapons.
