Giant template

Rules Questions

I'm Applying a giant template to a PC

Quote:

Quick Rules: +2 to all rolls based on Str or Con, +2 hp/HD, –1 penalty on all rolls based on Dex.

Rebuild Rules: Size increase by one category; AC increase natural armor by +3; Attacks increase dice rolled by 1 step; Ability Scores +4 size bonus to Str and Con, –2 Dex.

I'm a little confused about the language of the quick rules. Do I add +2 to both Str and Con, or do I pick one? The only thing that makes it confusing is that the rebuild rules add to Str and Con not just one or the other.

The language of the quick rules means the same thing as the rebuild rules.

You add +2 to all rolls that are either based on STR or on CON. So, if you can ask "is this roll based on STR or CON?" and you get "Yes" as an answer, you add +2 to the roll.

They can't say "and" in that sentence, since no rolls are based on both STR and CON at the same time.

Thanks. That make sense.

Generally just use the rebuild rules when applying templates, the quick rules are designed to be applied "on the fly" and thus are usually very simplified in wording and not 100% accurate, if you have the time (which if your coming to the forums you probably do) you should use the rebuild rules to be more accurate.

An example is to note that in the rebuild rules you get a +3 AC from natural armor and a -2 to your Dex score netting a total of +2 AC that is not listed in the quick rules. Neither is the damage dice increase
