Armor Spikes. Does 30 years ago count as 'classic'?

My group doesn't hate Armor spikes. They just twitch at them. They will wear them all the same because we do reflavor them.

Well, I am not calling you, or your friends out.

Just a general statement on Armor Spikes hate.

No worries :)

anormal fighter is the best spear fighter...

im not kidding. armor training, weapon training, and fighters already hit like trucks, you may as well stay mobile while you're at it.

BBT, just imagine you do a movement trying to hurt someone with the oversized spikes on your shoulder. Or knee or ellbow. Also that helmet, reminds me of a prussian "Pickelhaube" and comes along a bit weird.
It´s just not the average heroic picture most people have in mind i would say. You play a hero and expect it to look cool in your imagination and a lot of people don´t see armor spikes in there as a main weapon or even secondary.

Mechanically though it´s a different story. Also a spiked gauntled gives quite another picture.

There are 2 3PP feats handling that, "near and far" and "spear and shield" or something like that. They should just make them official, because it would really be nice with some other classes and combinations too.

Problem with spike gauntlet. Is you need hand free to use it. Both hand will are need to use long spear or pole arm. So it only option spiked armor or the pole arm master archetype or dragoon. Dragoon would be the best but you are limited only to lance as weapon for all your ability. Dragoon would be cheapest also as It magical bonus already apply to haft of weapon. I would let the improvised haft thing go at -4. I been doing that since 2nd edition. Same Penalty and damage to I did that for haft of pole arms and hilts of weapons. I try to make build with as few house rule as possible. So others can bring it to any dm with out issue. I will talk to DM about his house rules as his game gets closer. I maybe able to do what I want. Until then I am going to safe bet and go with RAW.

Performing Combat is another trap.

For races Oread (granite skin and crystaline form) give +1 AC, and the ability to deflect rays. Or Suli Jann both add something exotic and mystical to a samurai.

I wouldn't focus too much on mounted combat. You get bonus feats and if your good at melee = good at mounted. Just not SPECTACULAR. One or two feats should do if at all. DMs and modules often shut mounted down. The samurai is a amazing class even without a mount.

A front liner that can resist status effects, get multiple saves, and focus on one foe to tear appart no matter their allignment. Add to that an order and fighter only feats and its the warrior who isn't anothers buttmonkey with 4 skills per level and some actual non-combat classyness.

Best to be robust in a game, always viable and strong and fun and not just be a paper tiger/glass cannon that can ideally insta kill the npcs (= ruin the dms and other players day). that lessens joy, begets killer DMing and ruins game longevity and sometimes groups.

Samurai is the oppisite of what I am looking for. I am not looking to be the be all damage dealer or in the front line tank. I am looking to the be the character right be hind that guy helping him out. By triping all people in front of him, or softing them up so he can get in there and kill them in one swing. But I want to be able to hold my own conisdering if for some reason. I want my only speicalty to be my spear weapon group. To me it seems as if the samurai can do to much in some ways. I don't like the feel of the class either. It may have been a class that was never need also, just as ninja. It should have just been archetype of monk or fighter or paladin for rogue ninja. Caviler is also un need class it should have been archetype of paladin. It was in old D&D. I don't like order restriction of behavior and if i did want to play something with that I would play a paladin. I looking to be strait fighter or figther archetype that control the battle field with his long spear or another reach weapon. The problem there are not lot of feats made to work with that.

I could care less about having great saves I am happy with ok ones. If I did do any level diping it would be in rouge for skill points and evasion.

I decided on this if the DM lets me.

Human Mobile Fighter
Bonuse Feat race Combat reflexes
1st Dodge and Weapon Focus(Long Spear)
2nd Quick Draw
3rd Moblity
4th Weapon SP(Long Spear)
5th Spring Attack
6th Lunge
7th Martial Versatility(Speicalization Or Weapon Focus)
8th Greater Weapon Focus
9th Improve Critial (Long Spear)
10th Power Attack
11th Combat Expertise
12th Greater Weapon SP
13th Point Blank Shot
14th Whirlwind attack
15th Improved Trip
16th Precise Shot
17th Martial Mastery
18th Greater Trip
19th Deadly Aim
20th Two-handed Thrower

Will Paizo ever release a hardcover book containing all the super awesome feats that can be found in softcover books like Dancing Spear, Dervish Dance and Cornugon Smash?

anyone want to recommend 2 traits ?

This is not true at all.

You can explicitly punch with your hands full by the rules, so not being able to punch with your spike-covered guantlet while your hand is full makes no sense.

Also, while not officially errata'd yet, the unofficial response by paizo has been that it is a free action to switch your grip/hold on something or let it go, so nothing is stopping you from holding a polearm in one hand to deliver some spike punches, then re-gripping it and doing more 2H polearm attacks.

And you are free to mix in attacks of whatever sort you like in a full attack, you do not face two weapon fighting penalties unless actually using extra weapon(s) to gain extra attacks. If you have a BAB of +20/+15/+10/+5, you are just as free to use that for 2 polearm attacks, 1 spiked punch, and another polearm attack as you are (with quickdraw) to throw 4 daggers, or a dagger, a light hammer, a throwing axe, and a javelin.

Did not know that either. I have to buy that just for 5ft space threat. I am going to go the route of having a normal spear as back up for that instance. Drop long spear free action draw spear from efficiency quiver free action and attack on my turn.

Just cause you can do alot doesn't mean you have to. Being a backup warrior often means you get lesser gear, fewer buffs from the party or are targeted more as your closer to the squishy memebers of the party (and flanking the most threatining character). All of which make some resistance the difference between cool helper and annoying buttmonkey.

With wpn foc, spec, combat expertise, trip, lunge and combat reflexs your pretty much set. Mobility and spring attack ain't much help if your mostly behind someone and the best part is with a challenge they have to try and target you, cannot and so loose 2Ac (demanding challenge) add that to your trip and with the order of dragon your the king at aiding and helping allies.

As for the mount: just let it carry things and ignore the donkey.

Some other ideas for a back up tactical reach guy. Inquisitor (gets free tactical feats, has all the right spells on his list to unfear/unparalize/restore/remove conditions etc the front liner.

Otherwise a cavalier has the ability to grant free tacical feats to the group... very handy if your making a helper character for leadership or some such.

Not looking for leadership so much the only reason I was even considering leadership in anyway way shape before was for a Griffin or Wyvern cohort. Leaning more toward Griffin. Higher fly speed, and it has pounce. Would make for real nasty charging with Dragoon archetype. I did not want to be me mounted charge specialist. None that was to limiting of a build and would get boring. was looking for that middle ground. I think I got that with the mobile fighter, and human versatility feats tree. It allows me to move attack often effectively. I can stay behind front line guy or run past him if need be to get to wizard or dragon or BBEG. Spring attack is a tax to use whirlwind. So I can trip everyone around me and the fighter or just around me. next ground free AAO as they try to get up. I can Throw spears, javelins and spears and still use weapon focus or sp. eventual I can use all weapon focus and SP and even improved Critical on all spears. I even be using pilums instantly removes Shield bonus.

I just need traits to enhance this further.

I am going to go for good str and dex and int everything else will be dump stats.
