Hero Lab - Major Character Changes

Product Discussion

Our party just met a version of the Deck of Many Things, and one PC ended up a werebear. As I have all the PCs on HeroLab, I'm looking for a way of applying the werebear template to him. Now I know I may have to get an extra supplement, but I don;t know if I'll need the Advanced Race Guide or the Bestiaries for HeroLab to get this option, if I can at all. Can anyone help?

It is on Herolab, but not sure which supplement. I disabled all bestiaries, but it still showed up.

There may be some options you have to enable to apply templates.

This link may be of help too.

EDIT: I disabled EVERYTHING I had, and I still had the werebear template show up. It could be in one of the bestiaries (Bestiary 2 had stats for one.)

I can tell you i have all the werecreatures templates to choose from, but don't ask me where i got them from.Asking for the template description doesn't show the source of it.

It'll be Bestiary 1, as that's where the Werebear is.

ARG only covers standard humanoid races, the so called '0 hit dice' races.

Fair enough, I'll give it a try.

Yes, it was the Bestiary 2.

The Werebear template is available to all Hero Lab users. You don't need to purchase any packages to get it.

Dabbler, if your problem is finding it, templates are in the same list as classes. Scroll past the regular, prestige, and then NPC classes, and you'll come to the templates.

Liberty's Edge

Also a note as I had a character have the same thing happen and I also use Hero Lab. as the change is into a natural Werebear you will need to effecitively redo all of the class levels if you want to get rid of the error message that will pop up.

Actually I didn't - I selected it, then moved it to the bottom of the list and HeroLab was happy with it being retro-added before 1st level.

Wait, what ... you can do that????

Yeah, I have days like that too.

As someone who's written 20+ community datasets, I can tell you that you don't feel as big an idiot as I do.

I mean really, I should have figured that out by now....

Dabbler, thank you.

Woah... I di not KNOW that either.. having entered so many NPC's in to Hero Lab with my home game this would have SO SO SO useful to know!! hehehe!!! :)

I didn't understand what you did, Dabbler.

With a 2nd level character, I tried to select the natural werebear template:

That is, under the "Classes" tab, I clicked on Next Level: xx XP to go.

Then I scrolled down in the list which appeared until I saw the "Werebear, natural" choice. But I can't select it, as it is grayed out...

If I try to select it nonetheless, I can read "Template must be inherited - cannot be applied after class levels".

I feel as if something is eluding me here :~/...

Herolab is normally a stickler for RAW - it'll let you do almost anything, but it's noting that this particular template has to be added to a base creature.

To get the warning to go away, you would have to delete every single class level you have, add the template, then add the class levels back in. This will erase every choice you needed to make as you added levels in your class, including HP and so on, so if it bothers you be sure to write all that down.

EDIT: ...aaaand I'm an idiot. What you have to do is right-click on the level line to get it to move. Click "Move to Bottom" and everything should work.

....

*looks at Hero Lab*

...why did I NEVER TRY THAT?! *facewall*

Right-click to re-arrange also works in cases like "I've changed my mind - this fighter NPC should have a higher weapon training (bows) than weapon training (axes)". You can re-arrange them, and Hero Lab will change which one is at which bonus depending on their new positions in the list, instead of having to delete and re-add them.

I get it greyed out too, but I click on it and the 'Add' anyway. It comes up in red above the class levels you selected, then your right click and then select 'move to bottom'.
