I have a couple PCs looking for some fun, "quirky" magic items. They've requested what amounts to wondrous items; things like they had "in their last game". An example would be the Bowl of Cleansing: a bowl that cast a prestidigitation to clean you when filled with water and then poured over the body.
I'm open to suggestions. Here's all I've got so far:
Root Boots
A pair of root-motif boots which grant a non-moving PC a +2 against any CMB attack that would cause them to lose their footing (Trip, Throw, Reposition, etc.)
Cloak of First Strike
A fine cloak imbued with whispers of the ancestors. At the first outset of combat (first attack) the cloak imparts a +1 competency bonus to attack. The cloak then does nothing for the rest of the combat.

An illusory music "box", when opened it displays a mini theatre with an opera appears inside and you can listen to the music as well.
Brassiere of Beauty, once per day it can cast alter self on the wearer to appear extremely beautiful and nymph-like.
Coller of Awakening, an animal that wears this gains 2d6 int and learns common. When the coller is removed it loses the bonus to intelligence and though it remembers everything it learned, it may not always understand how to use that knowledge.

Fey pouch
Once per day, a piece of fairy bread or a random small cake is created within it, and of course can be eaten or used as a bribe/distraction/bait. Whatever is produced is very tasty.
Doesn't stave off starvation, but its a start, and it sure tastes nice.
Currently possessed by Rosehawka, a very cautious Barbarian with a great falchion.

Shouldn't the cloak give a bonus to initiative?

It sounds like you should actually be focusing on unslotted items that have non-combat effects.
The interesting items you proposed will quickly be replaced by more powerful items, with commonly required features, competing for the slot (such as a cloak of resistance).
I think what they're looking for are items that are relatively cheap, and affect things more like quality of life than combat. A way to get clean on the go, clothes that resist dirt and damage (prestidigitation and mending-enchanted), entertainments, and other features that make the world seem more magical.
