Can a Samsaran Alchemist use Mystic Past Life to gain access to new formulae, or does Mystic Past Life not work since extracts technically aren't spells?

Well, Alchemists can learn new extracts by rooting around in a wizard's spell book, so I don't see why not. Though there is a question that comes to my mind, it is this line:

The spells must be the same type (arcane or divine) as the spellcasting class you're adding them to.

So do extracts count as arcane or divine, or neither?

Extracts are NOT spells. This won't work as written. James Jacobs, who originally wrote the Alchemist class, said he thinks it SHOULD be allowed to work, but as it's written it does not.
