Shadow Lodge

I could not find an answer in book or forum. Are firearms considered wooden or metal for purposes of special materials? I'm trying to cut down the weight, and want to make it from mithril if it counts as metal, or darkwood if it counts as wood. I would say metal makes the most sense, and the pictures in ultimate combat seem to show the pistols at least as fully-metal, but was hoping for a better ruling, and any ruling on muskets.

Edit: I intend to use this for Society play, but I still think it's a broader question than just Society.

Would depend primarily on how advanced the gun was. I'd say that emerging guns are going to count primarily as wood. Advanced guns are more like their modern counterparts and may consist of more metal construction.

My suggestion is to do a google image search for the type of gun you are using and then talk it over with your DM.

If more than 50% of it is metal, you can take advantage of metallic special materials.

A permanent Shrink Item spell(for when not using it) combined with the Lighten Object spell can help as well.

I'll look into the spells, although permanency will be a problem. I'm mainly wondering for muskets and blunderbuss-es (blunderbi?) - definately in the emerging guns category. Pictures seem to be mostly wood by volume, but I'm not so sure if by weight.

If it comes down to it, maybe I could go 50/50. A blunderbuss is 8lb - so 4lb wood, 4lb metal
darkwood: +10gp /original lb, = +40 gp.
mithril: +500gp / final lb, = +2000 gp.

End result, +2040gp, 4 lb blunderbuss

Also, things like the Muleback Cords will up your carrying capacity.
