Can we please raise the cap on what one can buy with Prestige Points? Perhaps with 3 PP, you're able to buy something of 1000 GP, or with 4, you can buy something of 1250 GP?
As it stands, the Martial characters in my group are a bit upset that Casters can use them to buy Level 1 Wands all over the place, while Martials really don't get many useful item purchases with PP.

Look at it this way: if a caster spends 2PP early on (I'm assuming here that you're referring to low level play as the 2PP cost becomes irrelevant at higher levels) he's crippling himself when it comes to spending PP to gain access to spellcasting services such as Break Enchantment, Remove Curse etc.
Also, martial characters are encouraged to buy wands of CLW to lessen the strain on healers in the party.
Then there's also all kinds of potions that martial characters can buy, even though it might not be cost effective. They can buy Mst weapons or armor. A fighter can use 2PP to buy a Mst Half-Plate for 2PP, that's really not too shabby.
All in all I fail to see any reason to raise the GP value to PP.

In my mind, it evens out a bit, since the important early magic items for martial characters (masterwork, then +1, versions of weapons and armor) are "always available", and can simply be bought with GP when you have enough, while some important early items for casters (particularly wizards and sorcerers) -- bracers of armor and rings of protection -- are not "always available", and, barring having them appear on a Chronicle, you need to wait some time to be able to accumulate enough Fame to make those purchases.

Please don't change the fame access grants. They are fine as they are, and the martial characters are apparently not realizing that they could and should be buying wands for buffing or contribution to healing or the ability to bypass some challenges (you are intended to have others activate your wands. Martial PCs purchasing wands with PP represents a traditional campaign's party loot, in a pickup-group world).
Also, masterwork / special material / both weapons are a good choice for acquisition with prestige (i.e. the masterwork darkwood composite longbow matching your strength modifier). Or consumable potions that change the fight from "I can't do anything so I stand here readying to do nothing" (glares at a certain paladin from a Storval Stairs table) to "I go rock the hell out of that".
The almost-everything-open fame-based purchasing lets you have plenty of buying power with a low gate between your freely available +1 weapon and the just-over-8000 gp cost of a +2-equivalent weapon.
There's nothing that needs changing here.

Then later, when said caster dies, you can say "But you have 24 PP for a raise and two restorations, right? I do, so surely you must... right?"

I really doubt they are that upset as in my experience most of those purchases are Wands of Cure Light Wounds being used to patch those same fighters up.

Once I bought an Antiplague for 1 PA. My summoner was broke, he just got the mission notes for Pallid Plague - and it felt like a good investment. And yes - he used it to help him fulfill his mission. You are allowed to underspend ...
My Cheliax Barbarian was very proud of his potion of Cure Serious Wounds. This potion was given him personally by Zarta Dralneen. It was in an onyx black vial with a red wax seal bearing the coat of arms from Zarta herself. He carried it with him for several adventures to use it finally when attack by a large beast - a potion well used - as it would have cost his life otherwise.
In general - 3rd level potions are 750 gp as well - potion of fly anyone?
My Elven ranger joined the Pathfinder society for a single purpose - to win back his heirloom composite longbow (heirloom as in background - not as in Adventures Armoury) that he had given away to a Szarni when his human wife was in desperate needs of healing. Joining the Pathfinder society and doing his bidding for Guaril allowed him to get back his bow.
I hope these are a few examples that work for ANY character. Be creative - a wand of CLW might be the most optimal choice for 2 PA - but it likely is also the most boring one.
