Can an Arcane Bond be a magical item or just a plain masterwork?

Rules Questions

I was reading the Arcane Item Bond and it seems that it can only be an un-enchanted masterwork item. I always thought that the point was that you would get an arcane bond for the initial starting weapons.

Eventually, yes, magic. As it is free, my favor Arcane Bond is a Masterwork Revolver.

Blackbloodtroll can you give me an exact link and quote please?

Grand Lodge

See here.

If you are level one you get a masterwork item for free for your arcane bond, but the rules also allow for magical items to be bonded if you can afford them.

Quote:
A wizard can designate an existing magic item as his bonded item. This functions in the same way as replacing a lost or destroyed item except that the new magic item retains its abilities while gaining the benefits and drawbacks of becoming a bonded item.

Existing magical items aren't free though, I thought you could craft magic in for free?

The question is:

Do I get any bonus for making a magical object a bonded object apart from the one spell? Is there a way I can get cheaper or free items using this.

Grand Lodge

Not quite.

You can craft abilities into your bonded object as if you had the appropriate craft feats, but still need to pay the cost.

BBT is correct.

And you also need to be of sufficient level you normally would be to qualify for the feat before you can start improving said item.

Grand Lodge

Basically the only thing that arcane bond gives you in crafting the magic item is a pass on the item creation feat. All other requirements remain the same.
