I played In Wrath's Shadow yesterday. Three people in our group played with level 7 pregens. All survived, so we got the chronicles. During pondering which character we should assign the chronicle to, a question arose. You're supposed to decide which of your characters to give the chronicle to when you get it. The characters are probably low-level ones, so it in this case (level 7, remember), it will take quite a lot of games to reach the point where chronicle can actually be used. What if the character dies before that? Does the chronicle gained with the pregen just go to waste?

That's my understanding, yes.
You can also give it to a brand-new character. The Gold is changed to 500, and the Chronicle is applied immediately. (It's one way to get access to some seriously out-of-tier loot, if you can get the gold to buy it.)
I hadn't heard that rule before ... does "brand new" in this case mean "not yet played" or "this is Chronicle #1"? (ie, could it be given to a level 1 character with a couple of GM credits but no actual playtime yet?)
