Hopefully, we can avoid discussing the politics of the situation.
But, given how much Ryan has talked about the Goons, their impact on Eve, and their likely impact on Pathfinder Online, I found it interesting to discover that one of American diplomats killed in Libya was apparently a "leader" in Goonswarm.

The comments on that article sadden me.

Sorry, I knew this was dicey. I really wanted to focus on the fact that a prominent Goonswarm member was also part of the US Diplomatic Corps, and that he was particularly effective as a diplomat in-game as well. I was also kind of surprised by this because I'd gotten the impression from Ryan (probably from my own assumptions more than anything he said) that the Goons were synonymous with the Russians.

From this perspective, I was very impressed with the stories of diplomacy this guy obviously was able to bring to EvE. I hope Pathfinder will see this sort of high level diplomatic interaction also between people.
Obviously a guy who put his skill sets to great use online and in RL: Makes the loss all the more.
