With some of the recent discussions on the PBP format for PFS, a question has risen in my mind. What are scenarios that lend themselves well to the PBP format, or are really better run at the table, and why?
The following are a couple of thoughts from my recent experiences as a PBP GM/Player. For clarification, I am not saying any particular scenario is bad in a particular format, I am more commenting on the Good vs. the Better.
First Steps I: Many RP opportunities in this one. Good at the table, but better in PBP. The format allows you to dig into the NPC interactions more and perhaps throw in some city flavor of your own that you may not have time for in a tabletop setting.
First Steps II: The RP for this scenario is really condensed at the beginning, with more of an open door/fight/search/repeat feel in the second half. Because of this I think it is easy for players in a PBP to lose interest after the RP portion of the game, and thus I’m going with better at the table.
First Steps III: This scenario seems to play fairy quickly at the table. It may be better as a PBP with the opportunity to add more fluff into the scenario, but this could also be done at the table with a well prepared GM. Kind of a toss up.
Frostfur Captives: This can be good as a PBP, but I am going to go with it being better at the table. If you have a GM that really gets into the character of the Goblins in the scenario it can really be a lot of fun. This can be communicated in a PBP, but I think it’s way more enjoyable to actually see your GM being a Goblin. :)
Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment: I think this scenario really shines as a PBP. There are a lot of possible NPC interactions and relationships to explore that are difficult to really do justice to at the table.
Haunting of Hinojai: I could go either way here. The combats are a little complicated for the GM, and thus having the time to consider them in a PBP is a benefit. However, this is also a scenario based on a Horror theme that is easier to communicate in person over a table.
Mists of Mwangi: Players can really get into character with the possible transformation. This can be really entertaining to see, so I will go with better at the table.
Citadel of Flame: A fairly strait forward scenario with not many RP interactions. Better at the table.
Please feel free to add your own!

Thanks, ThorGN. As it turns out, I've just started recruitment for a "Citadel of Flame" PbP.
