Skills Question

Rules Questions

So I have a question as a GM I have a player who is playing a Great Owl Druid that's fine with me but my question is in relation to skills I know how skills work class skills trained untrained and all that go however my question is this if he has Perception as a class skill his Ability Mod is +5 Skill Ranks is +3 and his Misc Mod is +3 Because it's a trained class skill Do other things stack with the Misc Mod such as the Owl Getting a bonus to Perception IE +2 So would his new Bonus be +5 or would the +3 Override ? and if they do stack what is the Max that some of you have seen out there?

Wow... hang on, slow down, restate the question.

There are different types of bonuses -- some stack, some don't. It sounds to me like you're asking about that; the rules on those are here.

If that's not what you're asking, please try to restate your question more clearly (and with more punctuation).

Misc mod isn't a type of bonus. Misc pretty much has every other bonus. As long as two bonuses are untyped, they stack. There are a few exceptions, notably being Dodge to AC.

this.

How to be more clear hmm lets see here.

Druids Get Perception as a Class skill

Character is Level 3

Ability Mod is + 5 Due to Wisdom ability score is 20 making the ability Modifier + 5

There for you would get for all this

Ability Mod +5
Skill Ranks +3
Misc Mod +3
If you add all these up your Perception Skill Bonus should be +11
Great Owls Get a natural Perception Bonus of +2

My Question is as a PC Does the Player get the Natural Perception Bonus On top of +11 making it +13?

If this is not clear enough then oh well.

Your question is much clearer, thanks. Yes, the natural bonus is untyped, so it will augment their +11 skill.

Indeed I see thank you.

A few of the types of bonuses include circumstance, morale, enhancement, profane (forget the "good" one), luck, insight, competence, trait and racial. If you don't see these key words around the bonus notation and it's just something like "+2 bonus" then it's an untyped bonus and all untyped bonuses stack as has been mentioned.

A caveat: all circumstance bonuses stack as do all deflection bonuses to AC.

Another caveat that I haven't found a definitive proof of but that's concerning "armor bonus to AC." If you look at the armor description on armors, shields and the bracers of armor they specifically state their armor bonuses do not stack with other armor bonuses. Yet, there are a few different effects that confer an armor bonus to AC and they do not have the same "does not stack" warning. Ergo, they stack as the description in the magic section (since these effects are the vast majority magical) states effects from different sources stack. Only the strongest bonus of a given type (armor bonus to AC in this case) takes effect if two effects of the same type are on the same item.

Reread that a couple times if you need to. I had to backspace and reword things before they made sense to even me. :D

But back to your OP, a +1 luck bonus, +5 bonus (ability mod), +3 bonus (class skill), +4 morale, +2 enhancement, +2 competence all stack. Now, if they had a +2 competence and a +1 competence bonus to the same skill only the +2 would apply and not the +1.
