Is Eldritch Heritage worth the investment?

Advice

So I'm planning an Enchanter with a 1-level dip of Crossblooded Sorcerer (Fey/Infernal) and, in the interest of getting my DC's up, I was looking at Greater Eldritch Heritage: Arcane for the +2 bump for any one school, choosing Enchantment.

But I'm starting to wonder if "Skill Focus: Knowledge," "Eldritch Heritage" (Already have a familiar), and "Improved Eldritch Heritage" (both choices essentially wasted for a Wizard) aren't just too much investment for the benefits of "Greater Eldritch Heritage."

Thoughts?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I generally consider Eldritch Heritage worth the investment, but not if the absolute only thing you want out of it is the Greater Eldritch Heritage bonus at level 17. Dragging around that many unwanted feats for a +2 DC bonus at the end of your career is probably not worthwhile. Also keep in mind that the Charisma requirements get fairly steep towards the end of the chain, although an enchanter might be keeping a solid Cha anyway.

It might be more appealing if you have access to an archetype that trades out Arcane Bond - that way, you can get the archetype's benefit as well as a familiar, which might be nice. Unfortunately, most wizard archetypes are kind of junky, but if you're interested in playing an elf or a sylph they can get rather nice benefits for trading in their familiar. (Sylph's Spontaneous Divination is a personal favorite of mine, although it's understandable that you might already have a race chosen.)

In this case no. A +2 is not worth that many feats. When you consider the school is enchantment that is a double no. Many of the monsters you will face at high level are will have really high will saves, to avoid them being one-shotted.

Wouldn't really high will saves be a reason for increasing your enchantment DCs so that you actually have a chance at affecting those high level creatures?

I do agree it is a large feat investment though, particularly if the low level feats aren't of much use to your character.

Is this for PFS or for a home game?

For PFS, probably don't do it, as others have been saying.

For a home game, talk to your DM and see about taking Eldritch Heritage for the Sage Wildblooded variant of the Arcane bloodline, in order to receive Arcane Bolt instead of Arcane Bond. Also talk to your DM about changing Metamagic Adept to allow you to spontaneously tack metamagic onto something you didn't prepare with metamagic, instead of being so incredibly reliant upon being possessed by a spontaneous caster.

Monsters/Undead aren't really going to be much of a concern: The GM tends to throw more leveled humanoids at us than actual monsters, so my biggest Will-save threat is probably going to be Elves.

The character idea is basically "The Trickster" from the show Supernatural. Lots of Illusions and Enchantments and a "doesn't take much of anything seriously" attitude. Illusions don't really need the DC boost since you only get a save when you interact, but Enchantment needs all the help it can get.

I'm definitely leaning towards the "not taking them" option. It's just so hard to justify that many feats. :\

It might be better to spend them on the spell focus feats instead since that only requires 2 feats rather than 4 for the same benefit. Unless you were already going to take those and were looking for more stacking bonuses...

Here's my reccomendation - just go Fey. The vast, vast majority of good enchantment spells are Compulsions. That'll say you -2 to Will saves at the very least.

My REAL recommendation though is to consider the Kitsune Sorcerer. DC's for enchantment spells are through the roof and you get more versatility in combat. I've got a great build if you're interested in looking at it - DC 24 Hold Person at 6th level, DC 27 Dominate Person at 11th level, DC 35 Irresistable Dance at 17th and she is an absolute blast to play. I do take the Eldritch Heritage feats for the Arcane Bloodline with her for obvious reasons and she takes a smattering of illusion spells as well.

Kitsune Sorcerer. GG anyone else who thinks they are good at enchantments
