ALright, i imagine on the field of PF, that a medium creature is a five foot cube effectively, with their reach. so you can be a box, and attack five feet around yourself, or ten feet away with a reach weapon. does that mean you can attack five feet vertically as well? so someone can attack a monster flying five feet off the ground, if they are right under it with normal melee reach. but not ten feet. since that assumes their FEET are at then feet, and they occupy the ten to 14.99 feet off the ground area, correct?

Yes that is correct. Even if a character was 6ft 10in (male half-orc)with a great sword, his effective reach is only 5ft above him. it is a necessary game mechanic. The only time actual height comes into it is when you jump up to catch hold of a ledge or similar.

ibayboy said it well.

Try to remember, the characters that the miniatures or figurines are representing are not standing still. combat is a fluid, dynamic, exciting event. People aren't sitting around waiting to take an attack, everything is happening almost at the same time, the mechanics allow us to see specifically what is happening and thus exert our will.

Hope this helped :)
