Infiltrator Ranger Archetype Adaptation Question

Rules Questions

The wording on this is somewhat vague and searching didn't bring it up, maybe someone could help me shed some light on it?

"Adaptation (Ex)

At 3rd level, an infiltrator learns how to copy the unusual abilities of his prey. He chooses one type of creature he has selected as a favored enemy, such as “aberrations.” The Ranger selects one ability or feat from the adaptation list for that type (see below). A Ranger can use adaptations for 10 minutes per day per Ranger level he possesses. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be used in 10-minute increments. If the adaptation requires the Ranger to make a more specific choice (such as what skill to use with Skill Focus), this choice is permanent and cannot be changed."

Specifically, the choice being permanent. Does this mean that the ranger must make the choice of what skill he wants skill focus to affect when he activates his adaptations ability and it is permanent until the adaptation duration is overwith? Or does it means when the ranger levels up and chooses Skill Focus from the adaptation list, he has to choose a skill for it to apply to forever?

The wording, again is vague to me and character building softwares I have seems to suggest the first of the choices, not requiring you to make a specific choice.

Bump. No one has any insights?

I believe that RAI is that the skill chosen the very first time the ability is taken is permanent, altho i do think that a clarification needs to be made to cut out the cheese options.

By the same token, the giant option gives energy resist fire/cold/electricity which i would also say is a permanent choice. Especially since you can get mult items from one enemies list.

Ah, so I must take multiple skill focus adaptions then? Like at 8th level, I'd have to choose Skill Focus (Stealth), and Skill Focus (Perception) instead of just Skill Focus and some other adaption, then choose what skill to apply it to for the next 10 minutes when activating it?

Wording is so vague and humans being "good at versatility" suggests to me it's possible it may have meant "choose as you need." Not to mention the 3 character builder software packages I've downloaded suggest it as well, not making me choose a skill on choosing "Skill Focus" (as well as only letting me choose Skill Focus one time, without allowing repeat selections of Skill Focus). Hrm.

The software builder also doesn't apply the right benefits to several other archetypes, so that's not what i'd go by, otherwise the brawler built on mine would only get +1/+1 for his close combat training lol.

The fact that it specifically calls to make a permanent choice in the abiltities description for adaptations that have multiple choices is where I believe it is cleared up. Otherwise, would taking Giant, energy resistance(10) let you switch between fire, cold, and electricity anytime?

RAW, I don't believe it does, the choices are just as fixed as the terrains they replace.

I understand it in a way that you have to chose when you get the adaptation and after that it's permanent. This includes chosing which skill focus or resistance to which element.
