Hello. This was my first year playing Pathfinder Society games at a convention. I had only played two mods before and so I consider myself somewhat of a noob. I gathered up my tokens for playing and managed to get boon #8. A couple of the choices offer specialization in a skill. What does that mean exactly? Do I get skill focus for free or some other benefit? I do apologize if it is a silly question. Thanks for any help in advance.

Good day, dragonkitten. And welcome to Pathfinder Society. We're glad you're interested, and congratulations on the boon.
One of the core assumptions of the campaign is that all players have access to a product called the "Field Guide to the Pathfinder Society". It details, for example, the city environs of Absalom, and many different benefits you can buy with prestige points.
Many of the prestige awards and recognitions or resources that faction members purchase allow a character to become specialized in a skill. When a PC becomes specialized in a skill, that skill immediately becomes a class skill for her. If the PC gains that skill as a class skill from any other source (either before or after you purchase the prestige resource), she gains a +1 competence bonus on those skill checks.
What sort of character are you building?

The character I played during the convention is a deaf gnome oracle who binds books for a living when not adventuring.
