Mighty Composite Longbow

Advice

I am having a bit of confusion regarding the Mighty Composite Longbow. It seems to state in the PathfinderSRD that Composite Longbows add STR mod damage. So if I have a Mighty (+4) Composite Longbow what is my total damage?

I have 18 str. So with a Mighty+4 would I add my str mod twice? Or are mighty bows the only ones to add str damage, while the regular composite bows do not?

Your second assertion is correct

Only a Mighty Composite Longbow allows you to deal str damage.

In the Scenario you described, your Mighty (+4) Composite Longbow would deal 1d8 + 4 damage (Plus any other damage)

Also, remember that if your strength is ever damaged or drained, you cannot use the Mighty (+4) Composite Longbow until you again have at least a +4 str modifier, because otherwise you are too weak to draw the bow.

Not quite true...

If your Strength bonus is less than the strength rating of the composite bow, you can't effectively use it, so you take a –2 penalty on attacks with it.

So still usable, but at reduced effect

Moved thread.

Actually, the damaged STR does not prevent you from using your Composite Longbow at peak efficiency. This is because the STR modifier is still considered the same.

Ability damage only gives you penalties. It is ability drain that actually lowers your ability score (and thus ability modifier)

PRD doesn't make a distinction between the two:

PRD wrote:
Ability Damage and Drain (Ex or Su) Some attacks or special abilities cause ability damage or drain, reducing the designated ability score by the listed amount. Ability damage can be healed naturally. Ability drain is permanent and can only be restored through magic.

So judging by that, damaged STR would affect the Mighty Composite longbow.

Composite bows (whether long or short) have to crafted with a specific strength modifier attached to them in order to add that strength mod to their damage. Technically, once a bow is crafted with a particular strength modifier attached to it, that modifier cannot change. If your strength went up (due to level adjustments or a belt or whatnot) then you would not be able to enjoy the benefits of the extra strength unless you got a new bow.

I cannot reference the Mighty enchantment so can't help you there. Sorry.
