What special materails can a crossbow benifit from?

Grand Lodge

I'd say that a light crossbow or light repeating crossbow is mostly made of wood, so can be darkwood, while a heavy crossbow, heavy repeating crossbow or hand crossbow is mostly made of metal and can benefit from mithril.

I would say all X-Bows are made out of wood.
I never saw a metal crossbow anywhere (exept those skeleton x-bows http://www.kaswords.com/images/products/display/Hunting_Recurve_120LBS_Outd oor_Crossbow.jpg).
Even balistas (which are very heavy crossbows) are made from wood.

Sovereign Court

The crossbow in the CRB is composed of metal and wood. The problem, however, is that no materials really give you much benefit. The only material I can really think of would be Wyroot, but it can't be applied to crossbows. So, unless you want fancy flavor (or to bash your opponents), stick with vanilla.

Darkwood can save you a few pounds. And its not much more than a Masterwork crossbow and counts as masterwork. If you are a caster at low levels (or anyone with low strength) it might be worth it to save a few pounds of weight. Not super exciting but there you go.
