Monk of the Empty Hand & Actual Improvised Weapons

Rules Questions

Hello everyone,
I had a quick question involving the Monk of the Empty Hand. I realize that it states that the monk of the empty hand treats normal weapons as improvised weapons and then uses them as one of the three weapon types.

This leads me to my question, I understand how the monk of the empty hand treats normal weapons, how does he treat improvised weapons?

- Can they flurry with improvised weapons such as Ale Mugs, Kittens, Broken Chairs?

- Are actual improvised weapons such as Ale Mugs, Kittens or Broken Chairs forced into their weapon template?

Example: Would you have to use a large, heavy tree branch as a staff instead of something that could do more damage due to the branch being comparable to a bigger weapon?

I realize one would probably still need to take catch-off guard to use the actual improvised weapons without penalty.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Grand Lodge

1) Yes, the class is designed to do so.

2) No, follow the rules for common improvised weapons.

Yes, it is better to use actual improvised weapons.

I suggest the arrow. Nab large and huge sized Durable arrows of varied materials for DR. They can be drawn as a free action as they are ammunition, so, no need for Quick Draw.

Thanks for the info, flurrying with kittens or arrows sounds like fun. Though probably arrows since I doubt kittens would work.

If you decide to multiclass, then Ranger can grant you Weapon Focus(Arrow).

After 5 levels(after Ki Weapons) you could go into Breaker Barbarian to deal more damage with improvised weapons.
This is doable with the Enlightened Warrior trait. Also, the Rough and Ready trait will, more or less, work as the Catch Off Guard feat for you.
