Tengu Question

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

I have a quick question about the Swordtained racial trait for Tengu.

a) Does the Swordtrained trait allow the use of an Aldori Dueling Sword, or does it only apply to the specific weapons mentioned in parentheses?

b) If so, would the proficiency granted by Swordtrained be able to serve as the prerequisite for the Aldori Dueling Mastery and Weapon Finesse feats for this weapon? Or would I still need to pick up Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Aldori Dueling Sword?

Thanks.

Grand Lodge

Yes, and Yes.

It means any sword whatsoever. Technically I suppose a Tengu could wield a lightsaber with proficiency!

Grand Lodge

That is one plush racial trait! Thanks all.

Dark Archive

It's not bad, but a human could take proficiency with his bonus feat and not be out 2 constitution. It's pretty neat for +0 BAB classes though.

Sovereign Court

Swordtrained can also be swapped for Exotic Weapon training, which give them proficiency in 3 + INT eastern weapons.

Dark Archive

Or claws. Gotta love the claws.

They also count as Improved Unarmed Strike for the purpose of fulfilling feat prerequisites. I'm imagining a clawing, biting tengu fighter with Crow-err, Crane Style.

I was musing over a Shapeshifter Ranger build actually, but I thought a half-man-half-crow-half-bear form to be obscenely silly.

Owlbears are fine though.

Grand Lodge

You know, with all the fluff of Orcs riding Owlbears, I had hoped there was a way to gain one as an animal companion.
Same with Goblins and Worgs.
Same with Elves and Unicorns.

I have my own question about swordtrained. Does the proficiency that this gives you with bastard swords allow one-handed use of them? Or does it merely count as the martial feat requiring you to use them 2-handed?

You can one hand them. The bastard sword is an exotic one handed weapon. If you're proficient with it thats how you're proficient with it.

Grand Lodge

It allows them to wield bastard swords one handed.

Shadow Lodge

Sweet! That's how I was hoping it would work. You guys just made my day. Thank you.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

i also have a sword trained question, does it count for sword-like weapons like the katana or wakazashi? or do you have to use the exotic weapon trait to gain both martial and exotic eastern weapons?

Grand Lodge

Katana and Wakazashi count.
