Anyone have a good example of a Demoniac?

Advice

I am going to need some for a home game in a while. Party will be level 13-15 by then. The class fits the fluff but I am soooo unfamiliar with it I don't really know where to start.

help por favor

Well, the easiest way to use that PrC is probably being a raving lunatic caster-powered melee monster.

Stats: max charisma and get a solid str, the rest is up to interpretation - a few points in con don't hurt though

Race: demon-spawn tiefling (+2 cha and str, -2 int) and allows some stylish tiefling feats/traits like vestigial wings

Class (at least 7 lvls to qualify for demoniac): oracle of battle/metal or (if you want to focus on your claws or are willing to multiclass) you could also take flame, time or sth, and add two levels of antipaladin to the mix (cha-bonus on all saves, martial and heavy armor proficiencies and some other goodies)
Curse: tongues (oh so you're only speaking abyssal in combat... could you care less?)

Feats: you need eldritch heritage (imp, grtr) abyssal/orc bloodline (for the +str mainly, but either claws or the enlarge power are nice, too), skill focus (bloodline req), iron will, demonic obedience - so you should still have some slots to play arouns with. Maybe power attack?

Items: str and cha boosters, weapon and heavy armor (one way or another, you'll be able to use anything you want)... you basically don't need much to be fearsome

Re: demonic obedience, well, there are some with nice abilities and some with bad ones, some with easy rituals and some whose rituals can be hard to fulfill, but in the end, the choice is probably mainly one of flavor.

Tactics: You'd buff yourself with whatever you like (blessing of fervor, divine power, orc bloodline enlarge ability, ask someone to use enlarge person on you or get a wand, later you have righteous might), use energumen to get an even higher str score and go to town.
You still have a collection of divine spells (including healing) to pull out if you need them.

PS: you could also try to build something similar with a sorcerer - your base attack bonus will be lower and you have arcane instead of divine spells, which means you can't wear much armor - only pro point is that you don't have to spend feats on eldritch heritage.

I'm not a big fan of the demoniac. I really, really wanted to like this PrC. But it's annoyingly suboptimal for the first four or five levels -- a level 7 caster / level 2 demoniac is clearly weaker than a straight level 9 caster. And it's annoyingly blandish throughout IMO.

There are people who disagree with me. Here's a thread from last year where I critiqued the class; scroll down and you'll get some of my suggested fixes. http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz3q4r?Demoniac-PrC-from-Lords-of-Chaos

Meanwhile, if you're going with this, you want 7 levels of full caster plus 6-8 levels of demoniac. Are you building a PC or an NPC? It makes a difference -- some of the Obediences can be a serious nuisance to a PC.

Build to the strengths of the PrC. At 7th level, Energumen gives you +6 to any stat for 7 rounds once/day. Invest in fight-stopping save-or-suck spells that will benefit from that nice +3 on the save DC. (Energumen makes you go crazy when it's done, so either pump your Will save up over +15, or have a mook standing by to cast Protection from Chaos on the penultimate round.) Invest in things like Spell Penetration, so your SOS spells don't fizzle. Check out the various Demon Lord boons and how they can synergize; for instance, Deskari (the swarm guy) has a first boon that lets you cast Summon Swarm twice a day, and then a second boon that lets you stand in the middle of a swarm, take no harm, and gain a +4 profane bonus on Init and saves. If you're a melee caster, Haagenti's boon of extended Transformation is pretty sweet. And so forth.

Feel free to post your build -- it'll be interesting to see what someone does with this.

cheers,

Doug M.

P.S. I've posted a couple of demoniac builds on these boards, but they're midlevel NPCs with just two or three levels of demoniac. See, e.g., "The Return of Father Joe" a few months back.

Consider taking some levels in godling classes. Eldritch Godling also gives early access to the dual casting ability, and you could gain Force of Personality or another ability that replaces all save related attributes for something else

campaign, with rotating DMs centered in mended and the world wound, so I was planning to make many npcs using the class, as well as adding demonic templates.

Doug I will prob message you some sample builds, really not sure what I plan on doing with this

Hm. Well, it's actually a decent PrC for this, because you can pick different base classes and different demon lords to gain dramatically different flavor. A Sorc 7 / Demoniac 7 who worships Pazuzu will be very different from a Cleric 7 / Demoniac 7 who follows Haagenti. Also, the Lords of Chaos book gives some more options for customization. There's the Demon Graft, which should be pretty common by the levels we're talking about -- give your NPCs the occasional glowing red demonic eye, or long forked tongue, or a scaly talon like the deformed claw of some huge, hideous predator bird in place of the right hand. (For that matter, in the Worldwound environment lower level mooks should sometimes have demon grafts too -- a couple of them give like +8 Perception, very handy for a guard or lookout.)

On that old thread, I had an idea for using the demon mark... [rummages] OK, here:

Quote:

The demon mark is a good idea. Let's build on it. When you take your first level as demoniac, you must choose to have your demon mark either concealed (i.e., on a part of your body normally hidden by clothes) or obvious (i.e., on your face). An obvious demon mark grants you a +2 bonus on charisma checks against chaotic or evil creatures, or +4 against worshippers of your particular demon lord. Against lawful or good creatures, you suffer a corresponding -2, or -4 if they know the mark's significance (DC 20 Knowledge: Religion or Knowledge: Arcana). Most lawful or good creatures will begin with an attitude of Hostile towards the bearer of an obvious demon mark.

When you use a demoniac class power (demonic boon, energumen, or casting a spell through your mark), your demonic mark will writhe hideously and glow with a revolting luminescence. Any creature within 20' that can see this and that has fewer levels/hit dice than you must save (Will, 10 + your spellcaster level/2 + your Cha bonus) or be shaken for one round.

Starting at your 4th demoniac level, you can cause the demon mark to crawl around your body at will. Switching it from concealed to obvious, or vice versa, is a full round action.

At 6th demoniac level, you can "bud" your mark off onto another, creating a servant mark. This is a full-round action requiring close skin-to-skin contact and provoking an AoO. An unwilling subject gets a Will save. Treat this like a succubus' profane gift power: you can communicate telepathically with the subject, you can cast your demon mark spell through the servant mark, and the target gains a +2 profane bonus to one attribute of your choice. The mark is removed by Dispel Evil or Dispel Chaos, or you can remove the mark as a free action, causing 2d6 Cha damage. You can maintain a number of servant marks equal to your Cha bonus (but always at least one).

[Thematically, the point here is to let the Demoniac graduate from cultist to leader of a cult. It also makes a Demoniac a potential boss -- PCs start running into / fighting / killing off cultists with these weird marks, and one thing leads to another.]

If you cast a demon mark spell against a subject who wears your servant mark, they save at -4. A subject who wants to expel the mark can attempt to do so; this is a full-round action that can be attempted once per day. Success requires a Will save (DC 10 + your spellcaster level/2 + your Cha bonus). Failure will result in the subject being nauseated for 2d6 rounds. You will always be aware of the status of your marks, including successful or failed attempts to remove them.

[Traumatized subject is the magically enslaved victim of a demon cultist. PCs may at first mistake the poor victim for another cultist -- look, she's got the mark! Hook, season to taste.]

Anyway. I'll be happy to check out your builds, time permitting!

cheers,

Doug M.

The demoniac Prc is not worth taking for the boons that you will get anyway with the Demonic Obedience feat.

I would incorporate Fiendish Codex feats with the Demonic Obedience feat, namely to have the Abyss-Bound Soul (which required Evil Brand and Thrall to Demon) as the Prerequisite for the Demonic Obedience feat.

That would be a normal character would have Demonic Obedience at 9th level as the boons start kicking in at 12th level.

Just now starting to build up encounters and will see if I can come up with a demoniac
