Advice

Hey guys,

So, I've been in the process of creating Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy 12, over in the Conversions Subforum.

Anyway, I've finally finished him, but still need to stat up his Intelligent, Magical Wizard Dog companion (only a Wizard Dog as he can cast spells).

Gilgamesh will be level 10 and his Dog (Enkidu) will be level 7.

Now, as I created these, I could say that Gilgamesh is CR9 and his Dog is CR 6, totalling CR 15, but I feel that would be inaccurate due to Gilgamesh's incredibly powerful build, which you can see below.

*The Wandering Swordsman of Legend*:

Quest Location: Can be found on the Bounty Board in the Rusty Dragon, reading the following details; Many travellers have claimed sightings of an unknown Swordsman, wandering the plains of Varisia.

Some say he's a lost soul, destined to roam the lands for all eternity, few say he's a friendly guy who loves nature, whilst others claim to have seen him clash blades with legendary fighters, caring little for their life, collecting the weapons of his fallen foe as his reward for victory.

I'd like whoever's reading this to find truth behind the matter and hopefully it'll put an end to these stupid rumours.

Name: ???
Age: ???
Race: ???

Reward: Whatever you find, report back to me (Ameiko) and if there's truth behind the tale, I'll spread word of your Heroic actions and reward you.

Concept: Wandering swordsman of legend who roams around indefinitely, seeking out legendary and unusual weapons to add to his already decent collection.

What level should I place this into my game and what, do you feel, the average party level should be to face these two monstrosities?

players should be at least lvl 15 before they take this bad boy on. however, how optimized is the party, what are their lvls and what classes are present?

First off, a CR 9 + a CR 6 does not equal a CR 15 encounter. A CR 9 is worth 6,400 xp, and a CR 6 is 2,400, for a total of 8,800 xp, or just below a CR 10 encounter.

Secondly, there's no way Gilgamesh is a CR 9 creature. His stats are far too high, his wealth is absurd, and he's got plenty of racial(?) abilities to boot. Even if he doesn't have any racial HD (which he really should with the stats/special abilities), there's just no way his CR is only determined by class levels.

Also, be aware that if your players beat him, you're giving them massive amounts of wealth, which can throw the balance of the game far off.

His attacks/hp/ac put him inbetween a cr 13-14, but his additional slas are worth an extra +1 at least and he has the wealth of a pc level 18ish not counting special items, which i would put at another +2 cr at least.. With the dog i would put this as a CR 16-17 encounter..
