Using Acrobatic Dodge with a bow...

Rules Questions

How would you rule it in your games - could it be used or no?

Acrobatic Dodge

Sovereign Court

Not really the best forum for this, as it's a third party feat.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you wanting to use it to avoid opp attacks when you fire? That doesn't really work, as the feat doesn't function if you can't take a 5 foot step (for such reasons as already having taken one), and there's little reason to use it if you have your 5 foot step available.

While technically you could just hold you bow in 1 hand while its not your turn. I think its bad form to being using a 2 handed weapon and a feat that specifically bars the use of 2 handed weapon at the same time.

That's kind of the discussion... its not some cumbersome Halberd or Greatsword, its a lightweight weapon that can easily be held in one hand. Moreover bow-wielders are far more likely to qualify and make use of the feat due to their high Dexterity and generally lighter armor.

Technically though, a bow is a two-handed weapon, which is why I wanted to get some opinions on the matter. I feel like the feat as written wasn't intended to ban bows even if it technically seems to. Under this ruling you would be better able to use the feat with a battleaxe in your hand than a bow, which doesn't seem quite right.

Yes. I would rule that they meant "two-handed [melee] weapon or shield." A bow requires a second hand just to draw the string, not to handle its weight (2-3 lbs.) and/or length (held in the middle instead of one end). And I recall Legolas looking pretty agile on the big screen without breaking suspension of disbelief. You can use that feat to flip away with a trident; might as well do it with a longbow, which is about the same length, a pound lighter, and held balanced.

That feat has too many restrictions and requirements for my liking...

Be a goblin and take this paizo-created feat instead. ;)

If you can fly or featherfall, take note that "up" (or any sort of 3-dimensional movement) is a direction...
So awesome!
