Armor Hardness / DR / AC

Rules Questions

If you are using Armor as DR instead of AC when and how does object hardness come into effect and how many 'hit points' does the armor have?

See pages 173 and 175 of the core rules

Ah! I see... Armor Bonus times five. Still, there is the question of should the hardness be used or assumed to be bypassed. On the same subject, when using armor as DR would you subtract the reduced damage from the armors hit points?

The Core Book doesn't cover armor as DR.

Personally, I'd say that the Armor Hardness and HP remain unchanged - the variant rules you're seeming to be referencing from Ultimate Combat don't make armor lower in defensive quality as damage as taken, after all.

Even using armor as DR, the Sunder maneuver would still be needed to attack the armor rather than the person wearing the armor.

Now, you could house-rule that you reduce the reduced damage from the armor's HP and even apply its hardness as well (which, IMHO, is much more realistic, if harder to keep track of mentally depending on how detail-oriented your players are), but by the RAW, I'd stick with that myself.

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to the actual question. I thought you were asking about sundering or such.

No Hardness and Hit Points are not a factor is the Armor as DR variant in the Ultimate Combat. Only the Armor Bonus and Enhancement bonuses are used.
Ex. +3 Chain Mail [Armor Bonus +5][Enhancement Bonus +3]= DR 8/Armor

You also gain a +1/5(level/HD) bonus, but this is not tied to a specific armor.

No Problem. Thanks to you I had already figured the extra bonus to AC due to level, but it always bears mentioning.

Thank you again!
