AP Guidelines for character creation and # of players

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the ideal # of players for the average AP and what character creation guidelines to use? Are there books that should be excluded from use ect. And if you could please let me know the source of the info your sharing.

The APs are designed with 4 characters with 15 point buy ability score with players of an average skill level.

As for the source, many of the modules specifically say that in the first few pages. I don't know if all of them do or not.

Also, several of the writers and developers have confirmed that here on the boards.

As far as I know, the only ones that are different are PFS modules. I believe they are planning on 20 point buy and 6 characters. Not sure of that though.

Now if you are looking at 3rd party stuff, all bets are off.
