Hello,
I have noticed that a number of creatures have True Seeing listed under their perceptual abilities.
I have not, however, been able to find anything which tells what type of ability (Extraordinary, Supernatural, or Spell-like) True Seeing is considered to be.
My first reaction was that it was Supernatural as it seems to be based upon a spell, but is not spell-like as it doesn't have to be cast.
However, it then occurred to me that, as far as I can tell, every other entry under the Perceptual Abilities of creatures is treated as Extraordinary. And, some of those other forms of perception also have spell versions of them (like Darkvision and Low-light vision).
So, if anyone can point out the canon interpretation I would appreciate that. Failing that I would appreciate a discussion of the relative merits and flaws of classifying True Seeing as Extraordinary versus Supernatural.
Thanks in advance.
Okay, I just found that under the Crag Linnorm True Seeing is listed under Senses, and is later listed as an Extraordinary power. I am willing to take this as a general rule. That for monsters that have True Seeing listed under Senses, that the True Seeing in question is Extraordinary.

It really depends on the creature. For instance, a Solar has a constant spell like ability of true seeing. I think it's safe to say that if "True seeing" in the Senses section is italicized, then it's a spell-like ability, and if it's not, then it's either supernatural or extraordinary. But the rest of the monster description ought to specify how they get true seeing.
