Might be a stupid question

Miniatures

I have heard varying talk about this from alot of locals around my gaming scene & figured I would ask here.

Is Pathfinder Battles Monsters & Heros set a limited release(aka they only made a certain amount of them that are running out) or are they going to stay in print for the next few years?

We ran out of them & couldnt get them at the local game store, but now suddenly we have them back in. So I am wondering if I need to buy up a crap ton of the ones I really want before they are gone.

Thanks in advance & I apologize if this is a pretty well known question, I just cant seem to find out one way or another.

wizkids has sold out of them. Now it's just a question of when the distributors will get through their remaining stock. But once it's done, it's done; you'll have to find them on the secondary market.

Someone at Paizo really needs to answer this one. But I know that Wizards of the Coast did reprint some of the more popular Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures sets. I also know that Wizkids re-released some of the Mage Knight miniatures in another set. So I would guess it would not be unheard of if Wizkids elected to reprint the Heroes and Monsters set; unless there is some kind of agreement with Paizo no to do so.

There are no plans to reprint this set... but there's nothing preventing that changing in the future.

If they ever do go for a reprinting (reissue, recast?), I hope they repaint all those minis for which it makes sense to.

Ooh... I'm guessing more people would hate that than would like it. But I don't know—chime in!

I think a reprint-repaint would actually be really awesome, it would a) give an instant way to tell difference between 1st printing and newer ones, b) a way for a GM to have multiple creatures of the same type with an easier way to separate them for statistics ease, c) repaints are cool.

Well I would say for the most part putting out a second run and keeping it the same would limit some folks interest in buying more.

I picked up a case and then ordered a bunch of singles to give me a lot of the extras that I needed. So unless a specific AP or campaign came out that I needed a lot of figures for I am good with what I have from that set. (I bought lots of lizard type folks for Serpents Skull and lots of gnolls, efreet, etc for Legacy of Fire... but if an AP came out I wanted to run that used Kobold or Goblins as a main theme I may need more of those as an example.)

However if Paizo put out the same set with new paint on the same old sculpts you can bet I would get some more of those. Maybe not a full case unless they were all new paint jobs, but certainly some more singles of the ones I felt were cool or for common foes.

I agree with Thazar. I probably wouldn't buy any more of the exact same minis, but if there were different colored snakes or wolves or whatever, I would. Helps to differentiate one monster from another on the mat if they're not identical, especially if one or more of them is the 'boss' and has a different stat block.

Repaints of the NPC types would be great, too. I'd love to have, say, a human ranger with a different colored cloak to differentiate between PC and NPC or head bad guy and minions.

I think the repaints in the encounter packs will satisfy my desire for repaints (this is assuming the encounter pack line continues). That is where I would like to see them.

Grand Lodge

Considering that some have already been repainted with the Encounter pack, I see a plus with repaints for Thazar's reasons. Heroes & Monsters is more of a generic set, so repaints would be more useful. Rise of the Runelord would be a bad set for repaints as the miniatures were designed to represent specific heroes and monsters.

Of course the Encounter Pack route is a good way to go. I could see more of a time lag between the release of a set and Encounter Packs to avoid market saturation. But when minis from a set get harder to come by, I could see repaints in an encounter pack being very popular.

I think there are quite a few in ROTL that could qualify for the repaint. You still get some generic monsters like harpys, goblins, ghouls, wraiths, kobolds, etc... in this set. Also some monsters from this set and Heros and Monsters could be repainted and combined in one pack (think Goblin super encounter pack).

Grand Lodge

You are right douglasiv, there are some more generic monsters in Rise of the Runelord too that would be fine for a repaint. But as a whole set, there are many minis as a percentage that wouldn't make sense. Sure! Pull the Goblins out to create a cool Encounter Pack.

I would personally love to see a goblins & orcs encounter pack, as those are two of the types of critters I need to get the most of.

Thanks for the replies to this question by the way guys, really helps me figure stuff out. I am planning on buying up a bunch of singles soon.
